Nathan rose from the sofa and walked over, his long legs moving with quiet ease. His voice was gentle and polished. “Hello, I-”
“Hello, sir,” Jimmy interrupted coolly.
He elbowed the blond kid beside him.
The blond grinned and chimed in, “Hello, sir.”
Nathan’s eyes dimmed faintly, though the polite smile never left his face. “Do I really look that old?”
Jimmy nodded.
He didn’t like this man dating his sister. He didn’t bother to hide it.
The blond boy had been about to shake his head honestly, but seeing Jimmy nod, he followed along and nodded too.
Stella frowned. “Come on. He’s not even thirty yet. Call him ‘bro.”
Nathan’s gaze
shifted to her bright, beautiful face.
Standing beside her seventeen–year–old brother and the blond kid, Stella clearly looked like one of them. She blended in naturally. And he, on the other hand, stuck out.
His fingertips twitched slightly as he adjusted his glasses. “Either is fine. It’s just a word.”
“No, it’s not,” Stella said firmly. “You have to call him “bro.”
They were the same generation. She wasn’t going to let anyone make it seem like Nathan belonged to her parents‘ age group. That wouldn’t do.
Jimmy lowered his gaze, silent.
Nathan was already accomplished, successful, and more capable than she was in every way. he also got bumped up in age, Stella would never live it down.
She looked at her brother. “Say it again. Call him ‘bro.”
Jimmy raised his head and muttered, unwillingly, “Bro.”

Stella turned to the blond. “You too.”
The blond blinked, still eating a slice of watermelon. “Say what?”
“Bro,” Stella said, motioning toward Nathan with her chin.

Nathan’s warm gaze stayed fixed on her, and the gloom from earlier dissolved completely.
All he could think about was her looking straight at him and saying the word “bro.”
It sounded good coming from her.
The blond didn’t hesitate. He repeated the word obediently, then grabbed a few more pieces of watermelon and handed some to Jimmy.
Jimmy wasn’t in the mood. He glared at him. “All you do is eat.”
What had he done to deserve this day?
While Jenn remained in the hospital, Jimmy planned to stay with her until she was discharged. Then they’d both move into Ethan’s villa together.
It was getting late, and the blond eventually called a cab and headed home.
Stella turned to her brother. “I’m leaving now. You and Jenn get some rest.”
Nathan picked up his suit jacket from the sofa and stood as well.
They walked out of the room side by side, the door closing gently behind them.
Jimmy scowled, lips twisted to the ceiling, like he could hang a kettle off his face.
He pulled out his phone and messaged Ethan.
“Ethan, is Stella really dating that guy?”
Ethan hadn’t expected Louis to complete his assignment with such direct violence, but truth be told, he’d wanted to beat Lucas up for a while. Louis had promised it wouldn’t cause problems–and even if it did, Ethan wasn’t worried.
He saw the message and replied:
“Stella and Mr. Foster aren’t dating. Some things are hard to explain over text. I’ll tell everything once you’re home.”

Mr. Foster?

Suddenly, Jimmy’s brain made the connection. That man earlier–that had been him.
The same man who’d founded the charity helping kids in poor neighborhoods get an education.
The reason he and Jenn had survived the slums was because he’d been able to apply for living stipends through that very foundation.
He’d always felt grateful, and had even looked him up online once, curious about the man who had helped change their lives.
A wave of regret crashed through Jimmy.
That was his benefactor–and he’d just called him old.
And he wasn’t even dating his sister.
Jimmy scratched his head, the long bangs over his eyes unable to hide the remorse clouding them.
Meanwhile, Lucas couldn’t say a word, even if he wanted to.
It was so late that only the emergency department still had doctors on duty. But if he went to register, he was bound to run into fans.
Left with no choice, he tracked down the head nurse and asked her to look at his injuries.
She was just about to clock out. When she saw him approaching, her scalp went numb.
What now?
But once she realized he was hurt, her mood did a complete one–eighty.
Whoever had done this was a hero.
Doing the Lord’s work, she thought gleefully.
After a quick check, she realized the person who’d hit Lucas was a pro. Not a single mark was visible on his face, though the pain was definitely real. His tongue was torn, but that wasn’t a serious problem either.

She turned and headed to the pharmacy for the medicine, while Lucas waited silently at the
