Adrian, holding Rosalie, got into the car. A sudden tightness in his chest made him glance back at the abandoned factory. Something important
seemed to be inside.
A fleeting image of the woman from earlier crawling towards him surfaced in his mind. Her figure seemed strangely familiar. “Adrian, what’s wrong?” Rosalie asked, noticing his demeanor.
Adrian looked away, shaking his head. He must be overthinking. That woman was just a tramp; how could he possibly know her!
“Let’s go,” Adrian said, driving away. The further he got from the factory, the more agitated he became. He unconsciously tugged at his tie, failing to notice the car turning the corner ahead in his distraction.
“Adrian, watch out!” Rosalie cried, grabbing the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding the collision.
Adrian slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt.
Adrian was shaken, his brow furrowed. He’d never felt so unsettled. Jasmine’s face kept appearing in his mind.
Thinking about leaving Jasmine at the cemetery, he felt a wave of regret and self–blame.
He must have neglected her lately, causing her anger and the attack on Rosalie. Once Rosalie was better, he’d spend more time with Jasmine.
“Adrian, are you missing Jasmine? You should go back to her. I’ll get off here; I’ll be fine,” Rosalie said, her eyes welling up.“I know a new cake shop. Buy some to appease Jasmine.”
Adrian hesitated.“Let me take you home first. You’re so sweet. I can’t always let you suffer.”
“I’m not suffering. Taking care of Jasmine is my duty,” Rosalie said dutifully.“Just don’t get distracted while driving, Adrian. If something happens to you, Jasmine and I would be heartbroken.”
Adrian apologetically kissed her forehead and drove her home.
After taking Rosalie home and putting her to sleep, Adrian finally had some free time. He took out his phone and contacted Jasmine. “Jasmine, are you home? Something happened to Rosalie; she called me for help. I couldn’t just let her suffer, so I took her to the hospital.” “Jasmine, did
you orchestrate the attack on Rosalie? She saved your life. Why would you hurt her?”
“Once she’s better, you two can clear up the misunderstanding. I don’t want this to happen again.”
Adrian’s messages were filled with questions and warnings. He didn’t realize his heart was unconsciously leaning towards Rosalie.
His messages went unanswered. A sense of unease settled over him, but recalling Jasmine’s recent tantrums, her refusal to answer his calls, a wave of irritation washed over him.
Adrian called Jasmine, letting it ring until the call ended without an answer.
His mood worsened. Was Jasmine just throwing a tantrum?
She was the one who had done wrong, hurting Rosalie. Why was she angry?
He must have spoiled Jasmine, making her arrogant and reckless.
This time, Jasmine had gone too far. He wouldn’t rush to appease her like before, She needed to realize her mistake.
Adrian put down his phone, returning to Rosalie’s side. Looking at her pale face, Jasmine’s face unexpectedly flashed before his eyes.
Jasmine had looked unwell lately, lacking color.
A cold dread gripped his heart. He felt he’d overlooked something, but couldn’t place it.
Had something happened to Jasmine?
No, he had to go back and check.
