Chapter 12N
Something about the car accident had always seemed off. Too convenient. Too perfectly orchestrated. How had Nancy ended up in that exact location at that exact moment? And how had I just happened to witness their proposal, as if it had been staged for me to see?
The more I thought about it, the more the pieces refused to fit.N
I knew there was more to the story. So, I kept digging.N
And then, I found it. A witness.N
He told me he had seen Nancy that day–near the racetrack–with a man. She had said she wanted to “set the perfect stage” for a proposal.N
And suddenly, everything fell into place. The accident… wasn’t an accident at all. Nancy had planned it. She had orchestrated the entire thing. She had manipulated the events, set the trap and lured me straight into it. She had tried to kill me. All for Luke. She was a devil in human form.N
Fury coursed through my veins as I gathered every shred of evidence. Every document. Every witness statement. Every undeniable truth. Then, I went to find Luke. I slammed the stack of evidence into his chest, the force of my anger making him stagger.
“Look at this!” I spat, my voice ice–cold.N
He caught the papers, his hands shaking as he flipped through them.N
“This is the woman you love!” I sneered. “This is the woman you abandoned me for! She tried to kill me just to be with you! She’s a monster with a heart of stone!“N
I stepped closer, my voice dripping with mockery. “Tell me, Luke. Do you still love her? Or are you finally seeing the truth?“W His face went deathly pale as he stared at the damning evidence in his hands.N
“No…” he whispered, shaking his head in disbelief. “It’s impossible…“N
“Lyra, how could you do such a thing? This must be fake…”N
Luke’s voice trembled as he stared at the evidence in his hands. He lifted his gaze to me, his eyes filled with disbelief and torment.
“Lyra, why would you do this?” he hissed, his anger barely contained.N
Even now, with the truth laid bare before him, he refused to believe it. He would rather embrace a comforting lie than face the brutal reality. Nancy had blinded him completely. He had lost all reason, all judgment and even now, he was choosing her over the truth.
“You think I’m lying to you?” I scoffed, the bitterness in my voice unmistakable. “Look at the evidence, Luke. Every single piece of it proves what she did. Nancy is a ruthless woman who will do anything to get what she wants. She was even willing to kill for it!”
I stepped closer, my voice dripping with scorn. “You’re a fool, Luke. A pathetic fool.”
His whole body trembled with rage. He pointed a shaking finger at me but said nothing. Because he had nothing to say. He knew deep down that I was right.
“You still don’t believe me, do you?” My voice was cold, almost emotionless. “Fine. Then go and ask Nancy yourself. See if she has the courage to deny it.“”
