After I was discharged from the hospital, I started investigating. I hired a private detective and began gathering evidence. I wanted to expose them. I wanted to tear their perfect little world apart, just as they had torn mine. The investigation went smoother than I had expected. And then- A shocking secret surfaced.
Nancy wasn’t my father’s biological daughter, Nancy’s mother had betrayed my father. She had deceived him for years, making him believe that the daughter he cherished was his own. She had made him raise another man’s child. She had made him sacrifice his real daughter- For a lie.
I clenched the DNA test results in my hand and stormed into my father’s study. With a loud thud, I slammed the report onto his desk. “Read it.“%
He flinched at my cold, biting tone. His trembling hands reached for the papers, his eyes scanning the results. His face turned deathly pale. His body began to shake violently. And in that moment, I knew I had just shattered his entire world.”
“No… it can’t be…” He muttered, his voice barely above a whisper, “It’s impossible. Nancy, how could she not be my daughter…” “This must be a lie. You must be lying to me…“W
He raised his head and looked at me, his eyes filled with disbelief and pain.
“Lyra, why did you do this?” he hissed, his voice trembling with rage and desperation. “Why would you make up such a cruel lie to deceive me?“%
“You don’t believe fne?” I said coldly, my expression unreadable. “That’s fine. Verify it yourself,”
I stepped closer, my gaze unwavering. “Take Nancy’s hair, do a DNA test,” I challenged, “See for yourself whether I’m telling the truth. Then you’ll finally know who your real daughter is. And who the real fraud is,”
Without another word, I turned on my heels and walked away, I was done talking. I had nothing more to say to him. My disappointment in him had reached its peak. There was no turning back.M
A few days later, my father found me again. But this time, he knelt before me. Tears streamed down his weathered face, his expression twisted with grief and regret.
“Lyra, I was wrong,” he choked out, his voice breaking. “I was so, so wrong. I should never have believed their lies. I should never have hurt you, never have let you suffer like this…”
“I was a fool. I was blind.” He sobbed uncontrollably, clutching my hands in his trembling grip. The DNA test had confirmed everything. Nancy wasn’t his daughter. The girl he had cherished, protected and placed above me all these years wasn’t even his blood.%
He had been deceived. “Lyra, please forgive mel” he pleaded desperately, “I swear, I will make it up to you. From now on, I will give you all the love and care you deserve. I will make you the happiest person in the world,” His words, once something I had longed to hear, now meant nothing to me.
