Chapter 6
Julian held the receiver for a long time before finally setting it down.
The driver who had been waiting by his side cautiously knocked on the booth door. “Mr.
Hawthorne, the guests have been waiting for quite a while at the wedding venue.”
Hearing this, Julian took a deep breath and made up his mind.
“Let’s go back.”
By the time they arrived at the wedding venue, some guests were already getting impatient, finding ways to pass the time. Among them, Julian recognized one man, Adeline’s dance partner from the
night before. He was standing near the door, chatting with someone.
“Seriously, I saw it with my own eyes yesterday. It was Ms. Blackwood who started the argument with Ms. Pierce, and then pulled her into the water.”
“I couldn’t believe it. I thought when women fight, they just pull each other’s hair or something, but Ms. Pierce? She clearly couldn’t swim. It was really dangerous, lucky you pulled her out.”
“Yeah, if you hadn’t acted quickly, she might’ve drowned right there. They owe you big time for this
one.”
The group was laughing and chatting, oblivious to Julian approaching from behind.
“Did you mean what you just said?”
The man, clearly proud of himself, grinned. “Of course! I saw everything firsthand. I was hoping to get a chance to get to know Ms. Pierce better at the wedding, but she didn’t even show up.”
He waited for a response but found none.
Turning, he came face to face with Julian, whose expression was as dark as a storm cloud. The man
stumbled backward in shock.
Julian didn’t engage with him. He strode past, heading for the rest area.
Bang!
The door to the bride’s lounge was thrown open with a loud crash. Evelyn turned around sharply,
her back to the door.
“You finally decide to come back! It’s our wedding day, Julian! Not only have you delayed it, but you also left me here by myself. Do you have any idea how humiliating that is for me?”
She waited for him to calm her down, but when she saw the stormy expression on his face, she
froze.

“What’s wrong with you? You’re sulking and silent. You’d better give me an explanation for this.”
Julian locked his gaze on her before letting out a cold laugh.
“You want an explanation? Fine. Let me ask you. Did Adeline push you, or did you push her?”
At those words, Evelyn’s temper flared immediately. She placed her hands on her hips and pointed a finger at him, her voice rising.
“I’m talking about our wedding, and you bring up Adeline? What’s she got to do with this?”
Julian didn’t back down. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer, gripping her chin tightly.
“I’ll ask you again. What exactly did you do to Adeline?”
Evelyn glared at him, unwilling to back down.
“What I did doesn’t matter. I’m your wife. No matter what, Adeline will always be just a mistress.
Are you really standing up for her?
“Don’t forget, Julian, my family would never accept someone like you, a schemer and opportunist.”
Julian let out a mocking laugh before forcefully shoving her away.
Evelyn, unsteady in her high heels, stumbled and fell to the floor, her face flushed with anger.
“If it weren’t for your father being promoted to head of the Land Bureau, do you think I would’ve ever married you? And now, you dare to hurt Adeline? You really don’t know when to stop!”
With that, he turned on his heel and walked out of the room, leaving Evelyn fuming behind him.
He strode toward the stage, his steps firm and resolute.
Without hesitation, he grabbed the microphone.
The harsh screech of metal filled the room. His cold, authoritative voice echoed throughout the
venue.
“The wedding is canceled. All expenses today will be covered by me. Enjoy yourselves.”
By the time Evelyn ran out, it was already too late.
She tugged at her dress, stomping her foot on the stage in fury. “Julian! You bastard!”
