Chapter 4
Julian never thought Adeline would actually leave him.
To him, her tantrums were just tricks of jealousy, nothing serious. Without him, she had nowhere
to go.
The wedding venue was already set up, and the time was quickly approaching.
But Julian stood at the door, glancing at his watch again and again.
Each time he looked, his frown deepened, and his impatience grew.
He had his assistant go look for her, but after running around, no one could find Adeline.
Julian’s face darkened. “She’s throwing a tantrum again and doesn’t even look at the time. I’ve
spoiled her beyond reason.”
Though he said that, a sense of unease was rising in him.
Could it be that she was really angry?
Had he been too harsh?
But lately, she’d been acting out. Not only did she slap him, but she also pushed Evelyn into the
water.
Forget it, he thought. Once she calmed down, he’d apologize and make it right. It was just a girl with a temper. Nothing too serious.
With that thought, he couldn’t wait any longer. He asked someone to go back to the hotel and search for her along the way.
He was going to see where Adeline could go without him.
The people he sent kept coming back with nothing.
The wedding was delayed again and again. By now, it was noon, and Evelyn could no longer sit still.
She adjusted her heavy wedding dress and found Julian.
“Julian, this has been dragging on for so long. Why hasn’t the wedding started yet?”
Julian was already at his wit’s end. He turned to look at her and instinctively frowned.
Her complexion was pale, and she didn’t look particularly beautiful.
If it were Adeline, she’d be wearing a traditional gown, elegant and graceful.
That thought crossed his mind for a moment, but he quickly dismissed it.

He took a deep breath, about to explain to Evelyn, when one of the men he had sent out rushed toward him, panic in his eyes.
“Mr. Hawthorne, it’s bad. We’ve just heard that Ms. Pierce took a taxi to the airport this morning!”
Julian’s heart skipped a beat.
Leaving Evelyn and the guests, he ran straight toward his car.
“Quick! To the airport!”
High above the sky.
Adeline looked out the window at the vast sea of clouds below.
Ava Winters, Adeline’s cousin, sat next to her and decided not to disturb her. Instead, she waved to the flight attendant, asking for a cup of coffee.
When the cup was placed in front of Adeline, she was surprised.
Ava didn’t say anything, just smiled faintly.
“Adeline, forget about him. You deserve a better future.”
“Don’t waste your emotions on him.”
Adeline lifted the cup, smiling politely at her.
Her reflection was in the water, pale and weary.
But she shouldn’t look like this.
She murmured, repeating Ava’s words softly. “He doesn’t deserve it.”
In this lifetime, she had still made the wrong choice.
The warm coffee soothed her. She shivered, feeling the cold leave her body.
Looking back at the sea of clouds, a smile slowly returned to her face.
Maybe Julian was right about one thing. She didn’t need to make herself miserable.
After all, she was Adeline.
In her past life, she had gone abroad alone, completing Valmont Academy’s finance program in three years and graduating early.
In this life, at eighteen, she had come to Seabrook on her own, diving into the foreign trade
industry.

Five years later, she had become Ms. Pierce, a name everyone in the business knew.
A woman like her shouldn’t be trapped by a man.
She had loved with all her heart, given everything, and been hurt.
No regrets. He wasn’t worth it.
From now on, she would rediscover herself and live for herself!
