There was no sadness, no excitement, not even a hint of emotion in the air. Yet, it felt like the sharpest knife had been plunged into Hugo’s chest, the pain dropping into his stomach and triggering a chain reaction of spasms. The world spun before Hugo’s eyes, causing him to stagger back a few steps, his back hitting the cold car door with a dull thud. The pain spread along his spine, but strangely, it failed to awaken his numb senses.
Why did you come to find Adeline?
Because Hugo wanted to get things straight.
Why did she suddenly leave him, why did she disappear without a word, why didn’t she let Hugo find her.
The most important thing was whether she still loved Hugo in the end.
But those words just couldn’t be spoken when they reached the lips.
After a long time, Hugo finally said, “I want to take you home.”
Hugo talked about how he discovered Steffie’s true colors and how he got rid of her and the child.
Hugo talked about his regrets with his parents.
Hugo talked about his craziness and breakdown when he was looking for her in the past few months.
Adeline tightly held onto her phone, trying to suppress the trembling throughout her body. It wasn’t joy, it wasn’t sadness, it was the late truth suddenly tearing open the scab of her wound, revealing the festering flesh inside that had never healed.
