“Aline!”
Hugo took a breath and then forgot. The trembling voice echoed in the empty room, but there was no familiar voice to respond to Hugo.
The hand clinging to the door frame fell in vain, and Hugo suddenly turned and rushed up the stairs.
The study, the lounge, the gym, even the narrow storage room… Hugo was like a wounded trapped animal, spinning frantically in the increasingly small space. Every corner was searched repeatedly by Hugo’s anxious gaze, every possible hiding place was roughly inspected by Hugo. His movements became faster and more chaotic, his breathing heavy like a wheezing old bellows.
Panic spread in Hugo’s chest like ink dripping into clear water, quickly permeating and expanding, cold and viscous, weighing so heavily that he could hardly breathe.
Hugo grabbed the butler beside him and asked, “Where is Aline?”
“Didn’t I tell you to keep an eye on her? Where did she go?”
In order to prevent Adeline from escaping temporarily, Hugo not only locked her room door, took away her phone, but also had someone specifically guard her.
In Hugo’s imagination, Adeline, an orphan, had also been taken in by Hugo, her only source of income. She couldn’t go anywhere else, and there were people guarding her heavily.
She couldn’t even leave this villa!

Why are people gone now?
The butler, after being shouted at by Hugo, turned pale and could not utter a complete sentence, trembling and stammering.
Hugo let go of the butler and started to walk downstairs towards the outside.
The next moment, Marcella’s figure walked in from outside the gate, looking up at Hugo coldly.

“There’s no need to search anymore, she has already left, you will never find her.”
Marcella hesitated for a moment, and in that brief pause, the air seemed to suddenly freeze.
“Since you have already married Steffie, just focus on taking care of her and the children in the future, and stop thinking about irrelevant people.”
“Did he leave?”
This statement was so absurd that it made people laugh.
It was impossible. Adeline would only walk with him, as she had promised him from the beginning.
Adeline loved him so much that she even lowered her bottom line step by step to wait for him, allowing him to have children with other women.
If she really wanted to leave, she would leave him heartlessly when he compromised with his parents and said he wanted to have a baby with Steffie.
Instead of staying soft–hearted and waiting for him for so many years.
“Did you and Dad force her to leave?”

“I had already promised you and Steffie to have a baby, and I had also married her. I had promised you everything, so why do you still want to drive her away?”
Hugo’s voice suddenly rose, releasing all the pent–up anger in his heart.
Suddenly, everything fell silent for a moment, leaving only the pounding of Hugo’s heart and his rapid breaths echoing in the absolute stillness. The sound was magnified infinitely, deafening in the quiet, emphasizing the maddening emptiness of the room.
In the suffocating silence, Marcella did not speak, but instead walked forward and handed Hugo the farewell letter left by Adeline.
“We didn’t drive her away, she left on her own initiative. As for the reason, you’ll see when you look.”
Hugo hesitated for a moment before his gaze fell on the letter handed to him by Marcella – it was still written in the familiar handwriting of Hugo.
“Dear Hugo,”
Hugo subconsciously reached out his finger, with a faint, almost
imperceptible hope that he himself was unwilling to delve into, gently touching the pristine envelope.
Cold.
The chill that ran through Hugo’s fingertips was like a sharp lightning bolt, instantly piercing through all of Hugo’s nerves and disguises.
Hugo’s fingers repeatedly retracted and extended several times, but in the end, he still took the letter from Marcella’s hand.
“Hiss.”
The edge of the envelope was slowly torn open by Hugo, the sound was like a key unlocking an unknown door.
