Ethan Sullivan clamped his hand around her wrist with bone-crushing force.
“Evelyn Sullivan, do you realize how dangerous it was when Lily White fell? A stampede could’ve happened at any moment in the Equestrian Center!”
Evelyn coldly wrenched her arm free.
“Dangerous? Isn’t that exactly what you wanted?”
Ethan’s eyes darkened. “What are you implying?”
“Exactly what I said.” She turned to leave. “Move.”
He grabbed her again. “You’re coming with me to apologize.”
“Dream on.”
Her gaze suddenly locked onto the horse’s hindquarters. Her pupils constricted.
Ethan dragged her toward the lounge without another word. Evelyn struggled but couldn’t break free.
Alexander King cradled a trembling Lily in his arms as the doctor finished the preliminary exam.
“Mr. King, Ms. White has a fractured right leg. She needs immediate hospitalization.”
Lily sobbed pitifully. “Alex, will I ever walk again?”
Alexander’s expression was stormy, but his voice softened. “Don’t worry. I’ll get you the best specialists.”
Isabella Jackson stood nearby. Seeing Evelyn unharmed, she dug her nails into her palms.
Why didn’t that bitch die?
“Alex, this is all my fault…” Isabella’s eyes welled with tears. “If only I hadn’t suggested horseback riding…”
Alexander’s glare sliced toward Evelyn. “This wasn’t your doing. Someone here is clearly malicious.”
Lily spotted Evelyn and shrieked. “Get her out! Make her leave!”
Isabella hurried to soothe her. “Lily, I’m sure Evelyn came to apologize—”
“Apologize?” Lily let out a hysterical laugh. “I want her to pay with her life!”
Ethan stepped forward. “I’ll cover all medical expenses and subsequent treatments—”
“Save it.” Alexander cut him off coldly. “Ethan, this isn’t over.”
Evelyn suddenly chuckled. “Medical expenses? When did I say I’d apologize?”
Alexander shot to his feet. “Evelyn Sullivan!”
Ethan gripped her shoulder. “Last warning. Apologize.”
Evelyn met his gaze squarely. “Ethan Sullivan, you disgust me.”
The lounge fell dead silent.
Alexander laughed in fury. “Perfect. Just perfect. Ethan, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
Evelyn adjusted her sleeve with deliberate nonchalance. “Want revenge? Be my guest.”
“Evelyn!” Ethan roared. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
She leaned close, whispering words only he could hear. “Guess what I found on that horse’s hindquarters?”
Ethan went rigid.
