She hastily set down the glass, her throat burning.
“Grandma, we’re not planning for children yet.”
Grandma Sullivan sighed, her wrinkled hand covering Evelyn’s.
“Isabella’s back. I don’t want you getting hurt. A child might make Ethan settle down.”
Evelyn’s fingers trembled slightly, but she forced a faint smile.
“Using a baby to tie a man down? That would be pathetic.”
“Silly girl, you saved Ethan’s life and healed his leg. To me, you’re the only one worthy of being his wife!”
Meeting the old woman’s determined gaze, Evelyn suddenly turned serious.
“Grandma, if one day… Ethan and I divorce, would you understand?”
The teacup slipped from Grandma Sullivan’s grasp, clattering onto the table.
“Did he hurt you?!”
“No. I just wanted to prepare you.”
The dining room fell into icy silence.
Grandma Sullivan remained wordless throughout dinner, only shooting dagger-like glares at Ethan.
Before leaving, she dragged him into the garden.
“Betray Evelyn, and you’ll lose your shares in Sullivan Group!”
Ethan’s eyes turned glacial.
“You’re overthinking, Grandmother.”
Evelyn waited by the car, noticing the cold aura around Ethan when he returned.
She pretended not to notice, smiling at Grandma Sullivan.

“If this brat dares mistreat you, tell me immediately!”
The night breeze lifted Evelyn’s hair as she nodded and got into the car.
The black sports car sped away without a backward glance.
Grandma Sullivan snorted and stormed inside.
Ethan stood rooted, his expression darkening.
At the mountain’s base, a Maybach screeched to a halt, blocking the sports car.
Ethan strode forward, each step radiating dominance.
Evelyn rolled down her window, her profile cool under the moonlight.
