Chapter 40
The line was silent for a long moment before Alexander King’s icy voice finally came through. “Lily likes that dress. Name your price.”
Sophia Reynolds tightened her grip on the phone, her knuckles turning white. “Alexander, who gave you the right to touch my things? Return the dress within the hour, or we’ll settle this in court!”
She hung up with a sharp click, took a deep breath, and dialed Evelyn Sullivan’s number.
“Evelyn…” Sophia’s voice trembled. “I left the birthday gift you gave me in that scumbag’s car…”
After hearing the whole story, Evelyn’s eyes darkened.
“The dress doesn’t matter. I can design another. But how do you plan to handle them treating you like this?”
“I’m getting it back!” Sophia gritted her teeth. “I already gave him an ultimatum.”
“Let me know if you need help.”
As soon as she hung up, her subordinate called. “Boss, the person who drugged you has been caught.”
Evelyn tapped her fingers lightly on the desk. “Hand all the evidence over to the police. I want him locked away for life.”
That evening, Ethan Sullivan sent a car to pick her up.
At the restaurant entrance, Evelyn suddenly stopped.
Not far away, Lily White’s dress shimmered under the lights with a familiar glow—it was “Serendipity,” the gown Evelyn had designed herself.
Ethan’s voice came from behind her. “Why aren’t you going in?”
Alexander turned around, surprised. “Ethan? You actually come to places like this?”
Lily stared at Evelyn, quickly sending a message to Isabella Jackson before forcing a smile. “Since we’ve run into each other, why not join us?”
“Sure.” Evelyn agreed easily.
Inside the private room, Lily feigned innocence. “Mr. Sullivan, who is this…?”
Evelyn swirled her wine glass, a faint smirk playing on her lips. “Do you deserve to know?”
The air froze instantly.
Ethan raised an eyebrow—this was the first time he’d seen his wife so sharp-edged.
