Sophia Reynolds couldn’t hide the happiness radiating from her face. Evelyn Sullivan stole a few extra glances at her. Whatever man could make such a strong woman like Sophia act so girlish must be extraordinary.

“I wanted to invite you to dinner, but since you already have plans, we’ll do it another time.”

“Sure.”

The moment Sophia left, Evelyn’s phone rang sharply.

“Evelyn Sullivan, Ethan has signed the divorce papers. Come to the family estate immediately!”

Evelyn’s fingers stilled. Ethan had been so adamant yesterday—why the sudden change?

“He really signed?”

A brief silence stretched on the other end before Margaret Sullivan’s shrill voice snapped back. “What? Did you think Ethan couldn’t live without you? Don’t flatter yourself!”

“I’ll be right there.”

Hanging up, Isabella Jackson turned to Margaret with concern. “Aunt Margaret, Ethan will be furious if he finds out.”

Margaret scoffed. “Once it’s done, do you really think he’d disown his own mother for some woman?”

Last night, she’d embellished her complaints to Henry Sullivan, only to be scolded instead. Clenching her fists, Margaret thought of those disgraceful photos of Evelyn. That woman had to be driven out of the Sullivan family.

Half an hour later, Evelyn stepped into the Sullivan living room.

The two women chatting animatedly immediately fell silent. Margaret lifted her chin haughtily. “Once you sign, you and Ethan are finished.”

Evelyn walked straight to the coffee table and flipped to the last page. The bold, sweeping signature stung her eyes.

“Is this signature valid?”

Margaret sneered. “Not everyone is as shameless as you.”

As the pen touched paper, Evelyn’s heartbeat roared in her ears. Margaret watched her swift movements with inexplicable irritation. Why wasn’t this woman showing any reluctance?

“I’ll go file the paperwork now.”

Margaret shot to her feet. “I’m coming with you—just in case you try anything.”

Outside, Margaret glared at the Lamborghini, her expression dark. “That car Ethan bought for you stays.”

Isabella’s eyes burned with envy. “Sister, even after the divorce, you still want to take advantage?”

Evelyn swept a cold gaze over them. “Sorry to disappoint. This car is mine.” She got in and drove off without another word.

At the civil affairs office, Evelyn waited for what felt like forever. Impatient, she pushed open the car door—just as a black Maybach screeched to a halt in front of her.

The door swung open. Ethan stepped out, his long strides carrying him toward her, his presence suffocatingly oppressive.
