Chapter 31
Isabella bit her lip, her eyes darting nervously as she twisted the hem of her shirt between her fingers.
“Aunt Margaret… there’s something… about my sister…”
Margaret set down her coffee cup, brows furrowing. “Isabella, speak plainly.”
“My sister…” Isabella took a deep breath. “She was caught hiring male models at a bar a few days ago. At Grandpa’s birthday banquet, the surveillance footage was projected on the big screen…”
Margaret’s face paled. The teaspoon slipped from her fingers with a sharp clatter against the saucer.
“What?!”
Isabella’s eyes welled with tears, her voice trembling. “Ethan publicly acknowledged their marriage to protect her…”
Margaret shot to her feet, chest heaving. She snatched up her purse, face dark with fury. “We’ll talk another time, Isabella.”
“Aunt Margaret…” Isabella caught her sleeve. “Please don’t tell her it was me who told you…”
Margaret patted her hand, eyes glinting coldly. “Don’t worry.”
Watching Margaret’s retreating figure, Isabella allowed a faint smirk to curl her lips.
At the mall entrance, Evelyn had just stepped out with her dress bag when her phone rang.
“Where are you?” Ethan’s voice was glacial.
“Qanda Mall.”
“Stay there.”
The call ended abruptly. Within twenty minutes, a black Maybach screeched to a halt before her.
No sooner had Evelyn buckled her seatbelt than the car lurched forward.
“What’s wrong?”
Ethan’s knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. “We’re cleaning up your mess.”
As they pulled into the Sullivan estate, realization dawned on Evelyn. Remembering her earlier encounter with Margaret and Isabella at the mall, a cold smile touched her lips.
In the living room, Margaret sat rigid on the sofa, gaze sharp as a blade.
“Ethan, is it true she hired male models?”
Ethan’s expression darkened. “Who’s spreading lies?”
Margaret slammed her palm on the coffee table. “I want the truth!”
“It’s true.” Evelyn stepped forward, meeting Margaret’s glare head-on. “What do you intend to do about it?”
Margaret shot to her feet, finger shaking as she pointed at Evelyn. “How dare you ask that?!”
She whirled toward Ethan, voice shrill. “You must divorce this shameless woman!”
The air turned to ice.
