Chapter 21

Evelyn Sullivan rubbed her temples, sighing. “The birthday dress I designed for you was accidentally displayed by the staff. Now someone wants to buy it.”

Sophia Reynolds’ eyes lit up as she leaned in. “What style is it? I have a gala tonight—have Vanessa send it over so I can try it!”

“Your birthday isn’t for another two weeks. Why the rush?” Evelyn closed the file in front of her. “Get back to work.”

Sophia pestered her for a while longer but eventually gave up.

By evening, Ethan Sullivan’s call came through.

“I’m outside MY,” his voice was icy.

Evelyn checked the time. “I still have ten minutes left.”

“I’ll wait.”

At exactly five, she walked out of the building.

The familiar black Maybach sat idling by the curb. The moment she slid into the backseat, a chill settled over her.

Ethan didn’t look up from the documents in his hands. “Drive,” he ordered the chauffeur.

The air in the car grew suffocating. Only when they pulled up to the Jackson family estate did Evelyn finally speak. “If anyone asks, tell them you just gave me a ride.”

He snapped the file shut. “Am I that much of an embarrassment?”

“We’re getting divorced soon. No need to complicate things.”

“Afraid it’ll scare off your next lover?” His lips curled into a cold smirk.

Evelyn arched a brow. “You catch on quick.”

As she moved to exit, a strong hand yanked her back. Ethan gripped her wrist, his voice dangerously low. “You’ve grown bold, Evelyn.”

Outside the estate, the Jackson family waited eagerly.

Charles Jackson stood at the forefront, beaming. Ethan’s presence at the birthday banquet was a significant show of support for the Jacksons.

Victoria Farley proudly held Isabella Jackson’s arm. If not for her daughter, the Sullivans would never have granted them this honor.

But minutes passed, and the car door remained closed.

Whispers spread among the guests:

“Did Mr. Sullivan change his mind?”

“Maybe the Jacksons offended the Sullivans…”

“I heard he dotes on the second Miss Jackson. Why is he ignoring her now?”

Charles’ expression darkened. He turned to Isabella. “Go invite Mr. Sullivan inside.”
