Chapter 22
My attack was devastating, eliminating two opponents and critically injuring another. Landing, I saw Lucas, critically injured, staring at the screen, shocked and bewildered.
He knew I was talented, but not this skilled! I hadn’t been this good before. When he’d been captured, he knew they’d lose. But I’d stabilized the situation with my skillful maneuvers and sharp awareness, even turning the tide with King’s legendary
twelve–hit combo!
He felt like he’d never known his sister. She was a stranger. He felt a pang of anxiety, a sense of impending loss.
He hesitated, then said, “You…”
I ignored him, speaking into the headset, “Report your positions and status. I’ll be there soon.” I completely took control of this team now, just like my Alpha father once had controlled the FirstQuarter Pack
He was left alone, seeing only my retreating figure. He couldn’t help but glance at me. She was completely focused on the
screen, captivating.
Nathan spoke.“Lucas, what are you staring at?”
Lucas snapped back to reality, hurriedly catching up. He arrived downstairs just as I, leading the team, launched a fierce attack. My gunner was cool and skilled; my positioning and movements were top–tier, a stark contrast to Sophie’s clumsiness. This was the gunner he’d envisioned!
I secured the victory. Lucas’s emotions were complex. The competition he valued most was won because of me, the sister he’d always underestimated! He’d never experienced such a reversal.
The match ended quickly. I stood amidst the ruins, bathed in the setting sun, a victor!
The host paused.“The winner is the Sky Team! The substitute player was incredible! Is she King’s disciple?”
The audience erupted, chanting King’s name. I was lost in thought. In my past life, he’d taught me the twelve–hit combo. I’d suspected his connection to King, but he’d never confirmed it. I’d never met him. King had never revealed his identity.
Taking off my headset, I stood, hearing the cheers of victory. I smiled. I’d finally get that apology!
Nathan approached, beaming, “Lina, your performance was outstanding! You secured our victory. I knew you wouldn’t join the team openly but were secretly practicing!”
He was happy; Lina hadn’t changed. They were still a family.
My smile vanished. This was disappointing. I looked at the Summit Warriors captain. You lost!”
His expression was complicated. “Who are you?”
Nathan said proudly, “She’s my sister.”
“But isn’t the Ashford family’s daughter the one with terrible skills? When did you have another daughter?”
Nathan’s expression stiffened. That one is an adopted sister. She’s our real sister.”
You Sky Team are clever. You used a weak fake sister to deceive us, hiding your secret weapon. You caught us off guard.”
Lucas’s expression cracked. He hadn’t expected me to be this good!
The captain approached.“I admit defeat. You’re amazing.” The twelve–hit combo wasn’t something anyone could learn. No one had mastered it since King’s retirement. She was the first.
I said flatly, “You should keep your promise.”
“Fine. I said some awful things during the match, insulting your parents. I was wrong. I apologize!” He shifted to wolf, lowered

his body, and pressed his head to the ground. It was a sign of submission. He apologized to me in his wolf.
I shifted to wolf and nodded.“Be more careful in the future.”
But Lucas spoke up,“That’s it?”
I looked at him in surprise.
The captain sneered, “Lost your mind? Your sister won! If you haven’t got the skill, shut up!”
Another argument was about to erupt, but Nathan stopped Lucas to avoid further trouble.
After the match, I went backstage and saw Sophie, tearful and red–eyed. The atmosphere was awkward.

She looked up, her large eyes brimming with tears, looking pitiable. Anyone would soften. She shifted to wolf, weak, delicate, and fragile. This was her usual tactic to play victim.
My eyes were cold. I knew she was playing the victim; she’d used this tactic countless times.
She whispered, “Lucas, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have left the match.” She’d been humiliated and expected Lucas to comfort her. But I’d replaced her and won! Brilliantly.
She knew she needed to repair her image.
Lucas said coldly, “You know to come back? If it weren’t for Lina, what would have happened?”
Sophie cried, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been so sensitive. I was afraid of losing. I won’t do it again.”
The other team members spoke up.“Captain, she apologized. Let it go.”
“Yes, Captain. We won! If Sophie hadn’t left, the substitute wouldn’t have had a chance. How could we have won?”
Lucas felt that familiar helplessness and frustration.
Nathan looked at me.“What do you think?”
I was surprised he asked me.“Since Sophie apologized, what more do you want? Lucas, you’re too petty. Sophie sacrificed her grades for this match. How can you not appreciate her effort? A true werewolf would show forgiveness to a companion who
admits their mistake.”
Sophie gritted her teeth. Lina was deliberately creating conflict between her and Lucas! This woman was much more difficult
to deal with now.
Lucas felt a stab of pain, She was twisting the truth! Sophie made the mistake; couldn’t he say anything? Now it looked like he
was wrong!
He said angrily, “Lina, are you doing this on purpose?”
I smiled inwardly. Yes, I was. I’d been treated that way countless times. Lucas, you can’t take even one instance?
As I turned to leave, Nathan stopped me.“Lina, I formally invite you to join the team! Let’s move forward together as a family. Let’s forget the past!”
My smile grew colder.
