Chapter 21
Lucas and I stared at each other in the hallway. He was embarrassed and took the initiative.“You came to watch us fail, didn’t you? Funny? Are you satisfied seeing others mock our family team?”
I said coldly, “You were not as skilled..”
The Summit Warriors team arrived. I looked at their outspoken captain.“I have a question for you. Are you an orphan? Do you not have parents?”
The captain frowned.“What do you mean?”
“Literally. Your mouth is so foul, I assumed your parents died early, leaving you without proper manners.”
“Brat, say that again!”
I’d angered him.I said coldly, “If you lose the match, apologize publicly for insulting my parents in front of the reporters.”
We lose? You’re dreaming!”
“What? Afraid to agree? Pussy?” I goaded him, and he took the bait.“Fine, if *you* lose, your captain must apologize publicly for what he said.”
The Summit Warriors team left angrily. I remained calm; I knew how to win. But the Sky Team’s atmosphere was awkward.
Lucas grumbled, “If we lose, you’ll apologize. You’re not even on the team; why are you making decisions?”
“I just wanted that guy to apologize. That’s all.”
As I finished, Nathan arrived, windswept and weary.“Lina, seeing you here makes me happy. Our family is finally complete.”
I remained silent. Nathan glanced around.“Where’s Sophie?”
Lucas’s expression stiffened.“I don’t know. She ran off after I scolded her. She cut the mindlink. I tried to relink her, but she
refused it.”
The other team members spoke up.“Captain, Sophie just wanted to win, so she acted rashly. It’s not her fault.”
“Yes, Captain. She works so hard, training late into the night. She really tried her best.”
“Captain, you were a bit harsh earlier.”
Lucas felt suffocated. Harsh? Sophie insisted on joining, lacked talent, and had to work incredibly hard. And she’d made mistakes; as captain, couldn’t he say something?
Echoing the team’s sentiment, I said, “Exactly. Sophie worked so hard, even sacrificing her studies. Lucas, why did you scold her? You’re about to lose, but Sophie lost her self–respect. No werewolf could endure such humiliation.”
Lucas was furious. It was Sophie’s fault!
Nathan looked at Lucas.“Lucas, you need to change your temper. Lina was so good to you, yet you hurt her. Do you want to hurt Sophie too?”
“Brother, it’s not the same. Sophie…”
“I saw the livestream. You led everyone into the trap. You, as the captain, are responsible. Sophie just acted rashly.”
Lucas felt helpless. Nathan didn’t believe him!
I watched coldly, finally letting Lucas experience what I’d gone through–being wrongly accused, misunderstood, and unable to defend himself. Did it feel good?
Nathan called Sophie, but she didn’t answer. He said, “Forget her. Let’s discuss the match.”
