Chapter 20
Lucas’s gaze made me frown. Then, I received a call from Nathan.
“Lina, you must be at the venue?”
A bad feeling washed over me. I wanted to deny it, but the screaming fans answered for me.
“Lina, Brandon and I have urgent company matters and can’t make it to the competition. This match is crucial for Lucas. Join the team. Whatever your issues with Lucas before, we need to be united when facing difficulties, right?”
When I heard Nathan’s words, the screams of the fans around me faded away. My silence was deafening.
I hung up without a word. I was here to watch the show, not compete.
Lucas waited for me to leave my seat for the backstage, becoming increasingly agitated.
He scowled.“What’s Lina’s meaning? Does she want me to personally invite her?”
A hint of amusement flickered in Sophie’s eyes. “Lucas, let me message Lina. She’s sitting in the audience, probably still angry. Otherwise, she’d be backstage by now.”
Lucas remembered Lina’s previous behavior. She’d always understood his needs without being told. He’d grown accustomed
to her dedication. But she was different now.
He said stiffly, “Call her. If she comes to the competition, I won’t hold anything against her from before and will treat her like a sister again. As a werewolf, I’m not that petty.”
He’d been impulsive at school. If she apologized, he’d let it go.
Sophie’s expression stiffened.“Okay, I’ll call her. I’m sure she’ll come for you.”
Lucas’s expression relaxed slightly. Sophie called, her gaze fixed on me, her eyes dark.
I saw the incoming call and noticed Sophie onstage. I knew what she’d say. I ignored the call, watching the stage impassively.
Sophie looked surprised and then smug after the call. Good, it saved her time. She hadn’t wanted me to participate and steal her spotlight. She wanted me to witness her and Lucas’s victory. My presence wasn’t needed!
Returning to Lucas, Sophie said with feigned distress, “Lucas, I’m clumsy with words. Lina probably dislikes me and didn’t answer. Should I go find her?”
Lucas’s face was grim.“No. Nathan said he also called Lina, and she hung up. She’s not coming. Don’t bother.”
“Lucas, I believe Lina isn’t that kind of person. She wouldn’t be here just to watch us fail.”
“Hmph, we’ll win this competition. We won’t let Lina have her way.”
Lucas put on his headset, ignoring the audience. Sophie smiled with satisfaction. She began to fantasize about the victory within her grasp, her wolf basking in pride, “I’LL WIN AGAIN!”
The match began: Sky Team vs. Summit Warriors Team.
Watching the screen, I saw Lucas, the assassin, leading the team into an ambush. But the opponents clearly understood Lucas’s tactics and used a bait strategy. In my past life, I’d noticed something was off and advised Lucas to be cautious. He’d berated me then. He’d charged in, and they’d fallen into the Summit Warriors Team’s trap. I’d saved them.
This time, I wanted to see what he’d do without my warning. He made the same mistake, leading his team into the trap.
I smiled. Predictable!
Lucas realized the trap, but it was too late. Their rhythm was disrupted, and Sophie panicked, making mistakes that almost killed her teammate. They retreated.

ucas raged, “Sophie, what’s wrong with you? I said retreat! Why did you attack? Do you think you’re amazing?”
Sophie was flustered.“Lucas, I couldn’t stand it, seeing the low–health opponent.”

You were giving away kills, not getting them! If you were confident in your skills, you wouldn’t have been trapped, leading to is being attacked.”
Sophie, publicly humiliated, retorted, “If you hadn’t fallen into the trap, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
ucas exploded, “You dare blame me? You’re the one who’s terrible, holding us back! You haven’t improved after all this raining!”
Sophie’s face turned red with anger; she stormed off. The audience was stunned. Players leaving mid–match heavily impacted he game. The camera focused on Lucas’s grim expression. He called a timeout–each team had one.
The opposing team’s fans cheered, already celebrating victory.
Lucas slammed his keyboard, furious. He hadn’t expected Sophie to throw a tantrum. Lina, no matter how much he scolded her, wouldn’t have reacted like that!
The atmosphere was awkward. The opposing team taunted, “Lucas, just surrender. Avoid being humiliated later. Save face.”
Lucas stood up.“I won’t surrender. You’re probably afraid of losing.”
Lucas, everyone sees you’re going to lose, especially with a player leaving. Didn’t you boast about your family team never losing?”
Family team? Parents died, leaving behind many children. What’s so great about that? Gaming isn’t about who has more kids!”
Lucas’s temper flared.“Watch your
mouth!”
What? It’s the truth! Go ahead, try to fight me! Orphaned, useless brat! If your parents were alive, they’d be furious at your performance!”
My face turned cold with anger. How dare they insult my parents! My wolf became resolute, roaring loudly,“DESTROY
THEM!”
I went backstage. Lucas was restrained by his teammates to prevent a public fight.
