Cameron hung up and sped home like a storm, calling the medical team he’d long prepared for his daughter.
By the time he arrived, the doctors had already administered a sedative. Her little face remained flushed, the redness stubbornly lingering ever since the drinking incident.
Cameron gently wiped the sweat from her forehead, his chest tightening.
One of the doctors spoke softly from the side. “Sir, the young miss is experiencing convulsions due to brain damage. This condition can’t be cured. All we can do is give her a sedative whenever the seizures begin.”
Cameron’s brow furrowed. He clenched his fists and forced himself to stay calm. Thank you. Please remain at the house. I’ll pay you ten times your regular fee.”
After instructing the butler to make arrangements, Cameron turned toward him. “Where is Anne?”
The butler replied flatly. “In the basement.”
Cameron let out a cold sneer and walked straight toward the basement without another word.
A heavy stench of alcohol hung in the damp, airless space. The butler had told him that by the third day, Anne had refused to drink, and after that, she had been force–fed.
When Cameron saw her, Anne was curled up on the floor, surrounded by fresh vomit.
In just a short time, her face had grown gaunt, her hair hung in greasy tangles, and a foul stench clung to her body.
* Cameron instinctively took a step back, brows furrowed,
He had known she drank, but he’d brushed it off as a harmless quirk. It wasn’t until they lived under the same roof that the truth hit him: Anne was indulging, she was dependent. She had to be drunk just to function.
Tums out, everyone holds a bit of charm from a distance; up close, they’re barely human.&
And ever since Julia left, with no one left to impress, Anne dropped the act altogether.
Now, Cameron was sure. The only person he had ever truly loved was Julia.
Anne had just been a fleeting obsession.
The moment Anne saw him, she snapped, screaming with wild eyes.
“Let me out, Cameron! This is illegal, I’ll sue you for locking me up!”
She lunged at him, reaching for his arm in a frenzy.
However, Cameron slapped her, sending her crashing back to the floor.
Anne laughed maniacally, her voice slurred with drunken arrogance. “So what if I gave your daughter a drink? Why are you acting like it’s the end of the world? When your precious daughter drugged your wife, you didn’t lock her up like this!” “And now you’re locking me underground? Is this what rich families do, abuse people for fun?”
Cameron stared at her coldly, his voice low and sharp. “You hurt my daughter, you’ll pay the price.”
Anne let out a cackling laugh like it was the funniest thing she’d heard. “Pay the price? Says who, you? Don’t make me laugh. Back then, I lied and said Julia hurt me, and you threw her off the third floor! She didn’t even touch me! You’re such a fool, Cameron!
Cameron’s pupils shrank. His body went rigid.
In the next instant, he lunged forward and seized her wrist, his eyes burning with fury.l
“What did you just say?”
Anne’s grin widened, drunk and smug. “I said, you kept protecting me and punishing Julia to teach her a lesson,” But she never did a damn thing! What lesson was there to learn? You were just too blind to see it. Hahaha!”
Cameron’s whole body shook with rage. He had never imagined the truth could be this cruel. He had wronged Julia, far worse than he could ever make up for
He curled his lips into a cold smile, walked to the corner, and dragged out a rust–covered iron hammer.
“What Julia endured, I’ll collect it all from you.“E
Sensing danger, Anne backed away, her eyes wide with terror. “What are you doing?! Stay away from me!”
