Chapter 10%
Julia paused, then glanced down at herself and let out a quiet, bitter laugh. “I want to get liposuction.”
Drew looked a little surprised. “Your figure now, I think you look great.”
Julia shook her head. “Dr. Timberlake, I used to be a ballet dancer. I gave up my career for my family. But…”
She didn’t go on. She had no desire to revisit the past.
After everything, she had already begun to see Drew as a friend.
In all these months, not a single soul had come to visit her, only he had stayed by her side.!!
She spoke honestly. “I developed a hormone disorder during pregnancy. My weight issue, it’s no longer something I can fix by dieting. If I try, it’ll only make things worse. That’s why I need the surgery. Even if it’s risky, I still want to try.”
A strange tightness tugged at Drew’s chest. Something heavy and unfamiliar settled in.
“Surgery again?”
“Hmm.” Julia nodded lightly.
Drew lowered his gaze, eyes dark and unreadable./
“I’ll go with you.”
Julia looked at Drew in surprise, clearly caught off guard by his words.
But Dr. Timberlake, you work here. If you go to Germany…”
“It’s fine,” Drew replied with a faint smile curling at his lips. “I’m your caregiver, remember? How could I not accompany you for surgery, especially when Miss Gosling is paying me a hundred thousand dollars a day?“”
Julia’s eyes lit up. “That’s wonderful, Dr. Timberlake. Honestly, I was a little worried about going to Germany alone, but with you there, I feel completely at ease.”
Seeing the joy on her face brought an unexpected warmth to his own.
From the moment she lost feeling in her legs to enduring the pain of shattered bones and grueling recovery, he had been. there, every step of the way.
Without him, her joumey would’ve been unbearably hard.!!
After a pause, Julia spoke softly, stealing a glance at his face. “Mr. Timberlake actually, I want to stand on stage again.” She feared he would mock her dream as childish. She had brought it up before, only to be laughed at, dismissed by everyone who told her she’d never set foot on the stage again
But Drew looked at her, expression firm, and said clearly, one word at a time, saying, “Miss Gosling, you will return to the stage. I believe in you.”
The flight to Germany was about to depart. It was Drew’s first time flying commercial, and sneaking behind him was none other than his clingy friend, Charlie.
Drew casually introduced him to Julia as his assistant.
Julia looked at the young man with tousled blond hair and gave a polite greeting.M-
Charlie leaned toward Drew and whispered, “Seriously, President Timberlake? You have an entire fleet of private jets, and you’re squeezing into a commercial plane? Even first class has people. I’ve got social anxiety!”
Drew frowned. “Shut up. If you don’t want to fly, stay behind.”
The plane sliced through the clouds, soaring higher and higher. Julia stared quietly out the window, her hand tightening around the seatbelt without realizing it.
Floating above the clouds gave her a strange illusion, as if all the pain and sorrow had been left behind in the skies below.
“Heart rate: 128.”%
Drew’s calm voice came from beside her. “Do you need a sedative?”
Julia glanced down at her fitness band; she hadn’t even noticed how fast her heart was racing.
She shook her head. “Just a little nervous. I’m scared it’ll fall.”
The surgery was approaching, and now, for the first time, the weight of it truly sank in.X
The consent form’s risks kept flashing through her mind: fat embolism, organ failure, even death.N
Drew’s voice came again, steady and sure.
“It won’t fail. The lead surgeon is one of the top specialists in Germany. I contacted him myself.“”
He paused, then added, “Besides, you already survived breaking and rebuilding your bones.” Julia’s pulse began to slow. She exhaled softly. “Thank you.”
