emergency contacts on my phone. “If those
psycho siblings bother you again, call me.” I
nodded, telling him not to worry. “Who am I?
I’m the daughter of General Luke Carter and
Luna Lewis, the sister of the genius Major Lucas Carter Jr. Can they really bully me?”
I puffed out my chest proudly, and Lucas
ruffled my hair. At first, Janie was quiet,
keeping her distance. But it didn’t last long. She
pulled the same old tricks.
She cornered me in the bathroom, dumped a bucket of water on herself, and started crying. “Lucy, why are you doing this to me? Just because you’re a Carter doesn’t mean you can bully me!” I watched her performance, smirking. She’d done this countless times in my past life, hurting herself and blaming it on me.
“Just because I’m adopted, you think you can walk all over me?” And my so–called mom, dad, and brother always took her side.

“Are you done yet?” More and more students
crowded around. I grabbed the mop bucket
filled with dirty water and dumped it on her.
“What you did was nothing. This is bullying.”

Janie and I were called to the principal’s office. Ethan rushed over. “Janie? What happened?
Who hurt you?” Janie started to cry. But it was hard to take her seriously when she smelled like sewage. “It was her, Ethan. She threw water on
me.”
Ethan marched up and slapped me across the face. “Some things never change. You’re still a bully!” I pushed my tongue against the spot he hit. Then I slapped him back. “Who the hell do you think you are?”
He still seemed to think I was the unwanted Harrison daughter, that he could do whatever he wanted to me. As soon as I said that, Lucas

burst in. Ethan smirked. “What did I tell you?
You’re a bad seed, Lucy. I bet the Carters won’t
want you anymore when they see your true
face.”
Before he could finish, something cold touched
his neck. Lucas had brought a knife. “You think
you can hit my sister? Are you trying to die?”
I grabbed Lucas, trying to calm him down. “It’s not worth it, Lucas. Don’t get your hands dirty for this piece of trash.”
Lucas rolled his eyes before turning his attention to Janie. “She will be thanking my sister for this, aren’t you?” he asked in a cold voice. Janie can only trembled and answer yes.
Lucas could be terrifying when it came to the people he cared about. I knelt down, looking at Janie. “I’m asking you a question.” Janie was shaking so hard she could barely speak. Her eyes were wide with fear. “Th–thank you.”
<
Ethan glared at us before hurrying Janie out of
the office. I checked Lucas’s hand. “Lucas, it’s
fine. Why did you have to hit her? Does your
hand hurt?”
Lucas’s eyes were red–rimmed. “When you
were little, you ate rat poison thinking it was
candy, and I didn’t lay a finger on you…” |
hugged him. “It’s okay, Lucas. I fought back.
Your sister wasn’t hurt.” I knew it was just a
matter of time before Mom found out she had
kidney failure.
In my past life, she searched everywhere for a donor. But she was told her body was rare, and the chances of finding a match were almost zero. Only I, her biological daughter, was a match. I was so happy to get the news. Mom was the family I had long waited for, I wanted to do everything I could for her safety.
But as soon as I donated the kidney, I
overheard Mom and Dad talking in her hospital
