I shook my head, I leaned on his shoulders.
Ethan looked at the scene from a distance, he remembered his past memories.
The times when I would support him genuinely when he got perfect marks, he would wait for him to come home when he had overtime.
But all of those had belonged to someone else.
He hugged his head and kneeled down, greeting what was coming to him, the three years of jail.

Janie’s mom came to me when we were taking
a new family picture.
“Lucy, I can talk to you right?”
I followed her as I played with my phone,
sounding a bit disinterested.
“What’s up?”
She grabbed my hands intensely, and started to cry.
“Lucy, Mom knows that you were also reborn, right?”
“It was all Mom’s fault, Mom should have never trusted an outsider. Mom had thrown you in the trash.”

have been so sad.”
She cried as she wasn’t able to breathe
normally. I took back my hands in disgust.
“No, I should be thanking you instead. If you
hadn’t thrown me away, I wouldn’t have met my
mom and dad.”
Janie’s mom’s heart stung when she heard the
way I called them.
“Can you really not forgive Mom? Mom is willing to do everything for you, please give Mom a chance?”
I snorted. “Why would I give up my parents that love me, to be with the Harrisons that consisted
of a vegetable and a criminal?”
She let go of my hand awkwardly.

She lifted her head in surprise, but then what I
said stabbed her straight in the heart.
“Only with love, comes with hate, you guys are
just strangers to me.”
Looking at me, it was clear that we had the
same face.
In the past, I would sweetly call her mom, as if I could never get tired of it.
I would help her with the laundry, with the cooking, and with the bed just so I could get closer to her.
But what did she do, she just thought of me as bad luck and dirty, I didn’t have any education.

Janie’s mom gave the evidence to the police.

Janie’s mom was shocked.
“I didn’t fall from the second floor, nothing happened to my legs. I just went to the roof so you guys would feel bad. All I did was slip.”

She said that so calmly, as if she was talking
about what she had for dinner last night.
But Janie’s mom spit blood out.
“My Lucy.”
Janie’s mom had a stroke and was sent to the
hospital. Dad had also became a vegetable.
After three years, Ethan was released, and I had graduated from university.
I wore my graduation gown and stood with my mom and dad as we took pictures in front of the school.
Lucas had passed his camera over to Ethan naturally.
