Chapter 10%
“Pretending to be sick? That’s just pathetic. I’m going to drag those self–righteous academic elites down with me.”
“Especially Ethan and Emma. If they get into college together, how am I supposed to get close to Ethan–the rich second–generation heir?”
There were even more explosive details about how she and that man schemed to let Ethan take the fall. They plotted to ruin him so they could salvage their own futures.
But I quietly deleted the message.
Let Ethan find out about this “gift” himself.”
As the truth unraveled bit by bit, the atmosphere in the live broadcast room exploded.
Comments flooded relentlessly, voices growing louder, angrier.}
One wave of comments hit the screen:
“Damn, this is vicious!”
“Sophie’s character just collapsed completely–like a landslide.”}]
From the next hospital ward, I could hear heartbreaking cries and curses:
“Sophie, you bitch! Ethan, you bastard–you made me miss the college entrance exam! I won’t let you get away with this!“}]
I ended the live broadcast, shut off the connection, and stared out the window, feeling a calm I hadn’t known in weeks.
During those days, many classmates reached out, urging me to stand up and lead the fight against Ethan and Sophie.
“They hurt you this badly–aren’t you going to get back at them?“}]
Usmiled quietly to myself.”
I knew what they really wanted: because my family was wealthy, they hoped to use me as a pawn to settle their own scores, to wield my parents‘ influence as a weapon.”
I didn’t pay them any mind.”
After the Sophie scandal was exposed, she was mercilessly attacked online and soon quit social media. But despite everything, she still shamelessly texted me:”
“Do you think you’ve won? Ethan is still mine. You have to retake the exam, right? I’ll make sure you fail the next one.”
I didn’t respond.
Her bad days were only just beginning.
News about Ethan continued to trickle out. At first, he publicly accused me of betrayal, but later he apologized, confessed his feelings, and made hollow promises:
“I’m sorry. Sophie is pregnant–I have to take responsibility. But once the baby is born, we can take the exam together and start fresh, okay?”
I replied with only a screenshot–a university acceptance letter from a prestigious foreign school.
“No need. From now on, you and I are worlds apart.”
He never responded again.”
…B
Four years later, I graduated top of my class and earned direct admission to a doctoral program. When I returned to America to gather materials for my research, I heard all the old stories again. That year, the so–called “rocket class” was completely wiped out.
Even the few students who barely passed the college entrance exam only just made the first–tier cutoff–and all of them had to repeat the year.
Sophie gave up on continuing her studies because of the pregnancy and stayed at Ethan’s house, forcing him to take responsibility. Ethan accepted it, but his parents were furious. They went to the hospital, severed all ties with him, and disowned him completely. He struggled to get by doing odd jobs and relying on Sophie’s income from her livestreams.
He repeated the exam the following year and managed to get into only a second–tier university.}]
In his sophomore year, he discovered Sophie was still flirting with her “big brother on the list.”
He lost control, and a major fight broke out.”
Sophie sneered coldly:”
“I thought you were a rich heir, but you got kicked out, and now you have to depend on me? A useless man like you isn’t even worthy of being the father of my child.”
“I’m better off taking the baby to my big brother. He said he’d divorce his wife for me.”
Ethan completely lost it and fought the “big brother,” eventually getting imprisoned for intentional injury.
I heard he’s been behaving well in prison and is due to be released soon.
As for Sophie, the big brother’s wife found out and had her beaten so badly that she was hospitalized.}
After hearing all of this, I just smiled faintly to myself.”
is that all? I have a plane to catch.”

As the plane lifted off, I glanced out the window one last time.
In this life, I finally lived true to myself.
