Albert felt his heart soften the moment he
met Isabella’s tender, reliant gaze.
Yet, as his affection for her grew, so did his disdain for Florence’s sharpness.
Florence, watching Albert defend Isabella without hesitation, sneered inwardly.
She didn’t lash out, though. Instead, her eyes glistened with unshed tears as she said, “Do you have any idea what that necklace means to me? It was my mother’s keepsake. I couldn’t even bring myself to wear it, but I gave it to you because I trusted you. And now, you’ve given it to someone else. How could I not be upset?”

mother’s keepsake?”
Isabella’s stomach twisted into knots. A chill of unease crept over her, warning her that things were about to take a bad turn.
Florence turned to Isabella, her voice soft yet firm. “I can let this go, Isabella. I’ll give you other jewelry if you want. But this necklace is my mother’s. I’m sure
u understand why I need it back, don’t
you?”
Isabella hesitated.
If Florence had been more aggressive, she might’ve been able to counter her, but this sudden change in tone left her cornered. Refusing to return the necklace would make her look petty and selfish.

handed the necklace back.
Florence accepted it with a faint smile,
one that sent a shiver down Isabella’s

“No way!” Isabella blurted out, panic written all over her face.
Florence raised an eyebrow, her voice dripping with mock confusion. “What’s

you?”
Isabella stiffened and quickly looked at Albert. “Albert, that’s not what I meant!”
Albert gave her a reassuring glance before addressing Florence. “It’s only a few days. The delay won’t cause any major issues. The client and I have a good relationship. They won’t back out over this.”
Florence gave a faint smile. “As long as you’re confident.”
Deep down, she knew better. That client wasn’t as loyal as Albert believed, and she intended to make them hers.
Her
gaze grew colder as it settled on
Albert standing protectively by Isabella’s side. A bitter chill filled her heart.

How could she ever have fallen for this man? From the beginning, his feelings for Isabella had been obvious. Yet she had deluded herself into thinking it was nothing more than pity.
Now, she realized how foolish she had
been.

Her thoughts wandered to her past life, the injustice of her untimely death and the bitterness that still clung to her. A heavy weight pressed down on her chest, and it took everything in her not to march over and drag Isabella out of bed.
It wasn’t the right time yet.
“Albert, why don’t you see Florence out?” Isabella’s voice was sweet, almost
condescending, as she played the gracious

She even looked at Florence with a faint smile, fully expecting her to explode in anger. That was how it had always gone
before.
But this time, Florence didn’t even glance her way. She walked straight to the door, her composure unshaken.
Albert, as if suddenly remembering Florence was his wife, followed her to the
elevator.
Florence didn’t say a word. She didn’t even look at him. Her cold indifference stung, leaving a faint crease in his brow.
When the elevator doors opened on the ground floor, they revealed a tall, striking figure waiting outside. The man had

features, a high nose bridge, and an aura of authority that was both magnetic and intimidating. His presence was like the glow of the moon, cool, distant, and
untouchable.
It was Charles.
Dressed in a black silk shirt with his suit jacket draped over one arm, Charles exuded effortless elegance. His gaze swept over them, calm and commanding.
But when his eyes landed on Florence, his brow arched slightly, and his deep voice carried a trace of unexpected warmth. “Ms. Brooks, are you feeling unwell?”
Before Florence could reply, Albert’s expression darkened.

“Mr. Foster, thanks for your concern, but Florence was here to check on one of my employees. Also, I’d appreciate it if you addressed her as Mrs. Morris. After all, she’s my wife,” he said pointedly, pulling Florence closer by the waist.
Charles‘ eyes darkened slightly, his lips parting to speak. But before he could, Florence raised her foot and stomped
hard on Albert’s.
