Chapter 40 His Sincere Declaration
“Mr. Foster, you misunderstood. It wasn’t me who was hurt. It was my friend. I was just trying to get her to the hospital.”
After a brief moment of awkwardness, Florence realized why Charles had hugged her and quickly explained.
Charles set her down gently, his expression softening. “I still think you should get checked out at the hospital.”
Noticing a flicker of concern in his eyes as he looked her way, Florence instinctively averted her gaze, her nod coming off a bit flustered. “Thanks,” she murmured and quickly made her way
to Chloe.
“Chloe, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. But I thought I was going to die tonight.”
Chloe’s eyes brimmed with tears as she enveloped Florence in a tight embrace. Her face was etched with the remnants of fear.
Florence held her tightly, gently patting her shoulder. “I won’t let anything happen to you this time.”
Chloe was too overwhelmed to catch the weight of Florence’s
words.
Since Chloe’s arm was injured, they couldn’t go straight to the police station. They needed to stop at the hospital first.

Florence turned to Charles and whispered, “Mr. Foster, thank you so much for tonight. It’s really late, so you should go home and rest. I’ll treat you to dinner tomorrow to make up for it.”
But Charles shook his head. “I’ll go to the hospital with you. And then to the police station. Don’t forget, I’m the one who shot that guy.”
Florence was ready to suggest that Charles could just head directly to the police station, but she caught herself as Charles was already making a beeline for his car. With a resigned sigh, she let the argument die on her lips.
At the hospital, the doctors confirmed that Chloe’s arm wasn’t broken, but she’d need time to recover. It was the best news they could’ve hoped for.
“Florence, please don’t tell my parents,” Chloe pleaded on the way to the police station. “They’ll freak out.”
Florence hesitated. “You might be able to hide your injured arm, but your face is swollen. Do you really think they won’t notice?”
Chloe sighed heavily, “Well, I just wanted to drink away my problems. How did I end up in this mess? I’m so unlucky.”
Ch…
Then came Florence’s sincere apology. “I’m so sorry, Ch. got dragged into this because of me.”
“Huh?”

Chloe looked at her, confused.
With gentle patience, Florence began to explain the situation to Chloe, “One of the men who kidnapped you tonight is Samuel Lewis, who is Isabella’s secret admirer. I’m going to check the bar’s surveillance later. Isabella was probably there tonight, but there’s no evidence tying her to this.”
Chloe blinked, processing the information. “If there’s no evidence, why are you checking the footage?” she asked.
“I have my reasons,” Florence said. “Isabella is behind this. Even if I can’t prove it yet, I won’t let her get away with it.”
Her cold eyes glinted with determination.
Chloe reached out to pat her arm. “Don’t worry. Isabella will get what’s coming to her.”
After giving her statement at the police station, Chloe wast escorted home by the officers.
Florence was about to drive herself, but Charles stopped her. “It’s late, and your red sports car screams, ‘Woman driving alone.‘ What if someone with bad intentions notices? I’ll take you home.”
Florence shook her head. “Actually, Mr. Foster, I’m planning to go back to the bar where Chloe got into trouble. I’m not heading home yet.”
When Charles found out why, he insisted on going with her.

His tone left no room for argument, and Florence reluctantly agreed. She climbed into his car while his bodyguard drove hers.
Seated in the passenger seal, Florence was acutely aware of his presence next to her, even without turning her head. It sparked a peculiar embarrassment.
To break the silence, she asked, “By the way, how did you find that factory?”
In the heat of the moment, urgency clouded her thoughts, so she forgot to send Charles her location, her fingers only managing to
police.

“I contacted the police. They told me where you were.”
Charles provided a succinct explanation, and with that, her confusion cleared like fog under the morning sun.
She flashed a knowing smile, teasing, “Looks like you’re pretty worried about your business partner, huh? I bet if anything happened to me, that five–billion–dollar investment of yours would be on the line.”
Charles turned to glance at her and seriously declared, “As long as I’m here, nothing will happen to you.”
Her smile faltered. When she snapped back to reality, she
caught Charles turning his head away, leaving her momentarily at a loss for words.

With Charles by her side, retrieving the surveillance footage was surprisingly easy.
As Florence reviewed the footage, watching Isabella walk into
the bar with Samuel only to leave by herself, her gaze turned as cold as winter frost.
