Chapter 36 Honeymoon?
“We don’t know how long the business negotiation will take. If you wait here, it’ll just put pressure on us,” Charles spoke with a composed tone as he cast a glance towards Tyler.
“Then I’ll go eat by myself first. You guys focus on your work.”
Just as Florence was about to assure she felt no pressure, Tyler cheerfully announced his intent to leave.
“Ms. Brooks, see you another day.”
Tyler waved cheerfully at Florence before sauntering out of Charles‘ office with a smile.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Florence turned to Charles. “Mr. Foster, it’s actually okay to let Mr. Clark wait. I don’t mind.”
Charles appeared nonchalant and replied in a clear and magnetic voice, “Don’t mind him. Let’s focus on discussing the project.”
With no other choice, Florence nodded, pulled the project plan from her bag, and dove into the details with Charles.
Two hours flew by, and they finally wrapped up their discussion on the collaboration.
“Didn’t you get some rest last night?” Charles asked suddenly as

Florence was packing up the project plan.

Florence froze for a second before forcing a smile. “I did have some insomnia last night. Did you notice my voice was hoarse, Mr. Foster?”
Charles took in her appearance, noticing the fatigue that her makeup couldn’t quite mask. He didn’t comment but simply stood up. “There’s a good restaurant nearby. How about we grab lunch there?” he advised.
Florence didn’t object.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Charles let Florence order
a few dishes first before he added a few more of his own.
Before their meal arrived, Florence excused herself to the
bathroom.
Upon returning, she overheard two waitresses gossiping in the corridor. “The guy in room 301 is quite the looker. But why’s he ordering all this food that’s good for night owls?”
The other waitress replied, “Didn’t you catch his girlfriend’s voice? Clearly, she was up all night because her voice was a bit hoarse. That’s why he ordered grilled salmon, salad, and minestrone. He’s looking out for her.”
The first waitress sighed dreamily, “He’s handsome and cares so much about his girlfriend. I wish I had a boyfriend like him.”
“Keep dreaming,” her friend teased.

The two waitresses continued chatting and laughing as they walked down the stairs, leaving Florence standing awkwardly around the corner.
She wanted to correct them that Charles wasn’t her boyfriend.. They weren’t whispering anything malicious but indulging in a bit of harmless gossip. If she were to barge in now, the air would thicken with awkwardness.
Yet, as Florence pondered what the two girls might be discussing, a blush crept over her cheeks.
She thought, “It must be a misunderstanding, right? Charles just happened to order those dishes.”
Shaking off her embarrassment, Florence returned to the table.
The food had been served, and she stared at the dishes Charles had specially ordered. Without thinking, she found herself cating more than she realized.
Charles noticed and smiled, “Looks like I ordered well. These dishes suit your taste.”
“The food here is just incredible,” Florence murmure…
She found herself reluctant to confess her feelings, instead
opting to praise the food in this restaurant, but she ignored the untouched dishes she’d ordered.

Charles, perceptive as ever, didn’t call her out.

He simply leaned back, put down his fork, and signaled for the waiter to settle the bill.
The window of the private box was open, and the harsh afternoon sunlight streamed in, casting a golden glow over Charles.
Florence found herself momentarily distracted, thinking that even the sunlight seemed to favor him. The world outside paled in comparison to the man sitting across from her.
A few minutes later, they parted ways at the restaurant entrance. With a swirl of her coal, Florence spun around.
“Florence, wait.”
Suddenly, Charles called her name. She swiveled back and stared at him in confusion.
Without a word, Charles reached out and plucked a fallen leaf from her hair.
“A leaf fell on your head.”
He dangled the leaf in front of her eyes for a second before tossing it aside.
Florence struggled to dismiss the electrifying sensation that played along her head. With a hurried thank you to Charles, she

made her way back to her car.

Halfway through her drive, she suddenly realized that Charlest had called her by her name directly instead of “Ms. Brooks.”
Could it mean that he saw her as a reliable, long–term partner?
A thrill ran through her.
But her good mood didn’t last long. That evening, when she went to visit Ruby, her spirits plummeted the moment she saw Albert.
Choosing to sidestep the palpable tension between Florence and Albert, Ruby took Florence’s hand affectionately. “I asked you to come today because I need you and Albert to help me with something.”
“Madam Morris, what would you like me to do?” Florence inquired.
Gazing into Ruby’s gentle eyes, Florence found she couldn’t muster the same frostiness she reserved for the icy Hannah.
“You’re aware I run a hotel on Souten Island,” Ruby began. “Each year, I review the accounts personally, but this time, I’d like you both to take on that task. I’m considering leaving the hotel to the two of you in the future, so consider this an early introduction. Get to know the ins and outs of the business.
“Besides, you two should have a honeymoon after the wedding. Souten Island is stunning this time of year, the perfect backdrop

for romance. Why not make your trip there a little honeymoon getaway? What do you think?”
After Ruby concluded her proposal, her gaze settled on Florence with an air of anticipation.
A wave of horror washed over Florence, her mind uncontrollably reeling back to the shadows of her past life.
