Violet nodded. “Mr. Foster carried you to bed and tucked you in before he left.”
How embarrassing.
Florence wanted to hide her face under the covers. How could she have been so careless after drinking?
She was planning to ask Charles over tomorrow, but decided to send Violet out and call him right away.
“Looks like you’re awake now.”
When the call connected, a smooth, deep voice came through, making Florence’s ears tingle.
She couldn’t help but think, how can a man’s voice be this captivating?
Trying not to get lost in it, Florence cleared her throat and awkwardly said, “Mr. Foster, I’m really sorry. I promise I won’t drink th
much again.”
Charles‘ voice was calm and unreadable, “It’s fine.”
Florence wasn’t sure how to respond, so she switched topics, “Oh, by the way, my dad’s back today. He’s really grateful for your investment in Brooks Group. Are you free tomorrow afternoon? He’d love to have you over for dinner. Our chef used

to work at a famous five–star hotel, and the food is amazing.”
She knew Charles was usually busy and didn’t expect him to say yes right away. She just wanted him to know how much she and her father appreciated him as an investor.
To her surprise, Charles agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
“Alright, what time in the afternoon? Just send me the address, and I’ll be there on time.”
Florence was taken aback for a moment, surprised at how quickly Charles agreed.
Still, she was quite pleased.
“Okay, I’ll send you the address later. Goodnight.”
After saying goodbye to Charles, Florence ended the call.
Sitting in his study, Charles listened to the dial tone for a while before putting down his phone.
After a moment, he lit a cigarette, stood on the balcony, and smoked a couple silently. Then, he called his assistant, “Cancel tomorrow afternoon’s meeting.”
By noon the next day, Florence was already home, arranging for the chef to prepare the menu for hosting Charles that afternoon.
When the agreed time came, Charles showed up, carrying two boxes of fancy gifts.

“Mr. Foster, it’s great to see you! You didn’t have to bring anything.”
William’s face lit up with a warm smile when he saw Charles.
Charles extended his hand for a shake, “I couldn’t come to your home with nothing, now could I?”
William looked at the charming and impressive Charles, thinking how perfect he’d be as a son–in–law.
Not only did he come from a better family than Albert, but he was also the CEO of the world–renowned Apex Group, and he wasn’t even thirty yet. The sky was the limit for him.
What a pity.
Just then, Florence emerged from the kitchen, her eyes sparkling like glass, “Dad, Mr. Foster, dinner’s ready. Let’s chat over the meal.”
Before she finished speaking, a servant entered with a peculiar expression, “Mr. Brooks, Ms. Brooks, Mr. Morris is here.”
No sooner had the servant spoken than Albert walked in, “Florence, you didn’t tell me Dad was back.”
He didn’t finish his sentence, and his smile froze on his face when he saw Charles.
The wrist that had been set back in place started to ache again.

Florence’s expression turned icy as she looked at Albert. “What are you doing here?”
Her cold tone irked Albert. “I’m your husband. Dad’s back, shouldn’t I be here to see him? But I get it, you didn’t want me to know because you invited another man over.”
Before Florence could respond, William spoke up with displeasure, “I asked Florence to invite Mr. Foster. You accuse her without knowing the facts. No wonder she wants a divorce. I won’t accept you as my son–in–law.”
Albert’s face changed, and he quickly apologized to William, “Dad, I’m sorry. I misunderstood Florence. I just care about her too much.”
Charles watched him with a mocking gaze. “If you care about Ms. Brooks, then what was that scene with another woman at the restaurant yesterday?”
