As expected, Gabriel was in such a good mood that day.
He came running toward me from a distance, his school uniform flaring in the wind, filled with sunshine and motion.
Maybe that’s why, when he pulled me into his arms, I still felt warmth.
I asked him what made him so happy.
He smiled and said he’d just won a beautiful game.
I smiled too.
Pretending not to know that this so–called “beautiful game” never actually happened, I slipped a hotel key card into his palm.
“Today’s my 18th birthday.
“Celebrate with me. Will you?”
That night, I thought I’d finally be the one on the losing end of the game we were playing.
Surprisingly, Gabriel–who looked like he was born for sin–had never done it before.
The bits and pieces he’d picked up from porn didn’t stand a chance against my mastery of textbook knowledge, analytical reasoning, and high–level spatial imagination.
Watching him beneath me, eyes flushed at the corners, stubbornly biting back any sound–only then did I truly understand the meaning of that old

I just didn’t quite get the timing right. The next day during his basketball game, the so–called “Dunk King” Gabriel suddenly lost strength mid–air on a jump.
Men always love to imagine that a woman never forgets her first.
But I experienced something much deeper–that for men, sex and love are far harder to separate.
He was young, full of fire, and once he’d had a taste of it in bed, he couldn’t get enough.
And outside of bed, Gabriel started growing closer to me too–in ways he
himself didn’t seem to notice.
Rebecca, however, noticed the shift between us right away.
She started to feel threatened.
After another night of Gabriel and me exhausting each other, Rebecca cornered me in the bathroom, seething with fury.
She stared at the faint love bites peeking out from my collar, and the fury in her eyes looked like it might actually explode, but she still forced herself to keep it passive–aggressive. “You and Gabriel sure have stamina. Doesn’t it ever get boring doing the same thing over and over?”
I calmly turned to the mirror, adjusting my collar to cover the marks, and then smiled sweetly at her.
“Well, if I don’t spend my energy on my boyfriend… where else should I spend it?”
“Maybe on-”

I dragged out the words, tilting my head.
“School?”
That day, Rebecca walked away in defeat.
And I still remembered the look on her face.

Not just the seething rage, but that sharp, almost smug glint underneath it -like she was silently telling me, “Just wait. Your turn’s coming.”
And today, it looked like it was finally her moment to make me “pay.”
The extras quickly got the message and cleared the scene, leaving the stage to the real stars.
Through the crack in the door, I saw Rebecca slide into Gabriel’s lap, a little too eagerly, arms wrapping around his neck.
“Gabriel, you haven’t touched me in so long… Once she finishes filling out her university applications, you better dump her and come back to me.
“I promised you…
“As long as you help me destroy that bitch, I’ll give myself to you…
As she spoke, she leaned in to kiss him–but Gabriel turned his head, dodging her.
And honestly, I didn’t think even he knew why.
After he pulled away, a flicker of confusion crossed his eyes.
I leaned against the wall outside, unable to hold back a silent laugh.
Gabriel had always been a flirt, born to be wild. Even back when he was with Rebecca, he was shamelessly messing around with other girls on the

side–like commitment was a foreign concept to him.
But on the day Gabriel confessed to me, I told him something.
“I’ll be your girlfriend on one condition.
“You can’t have anyone else but me.”
Of course, he agreed without hesitation.

And yet, he still kissed pretty girls on the school track. Still had one hot girl after another riding on the back of his motorcycle.
I acted like my own words were just noise–like they didn’t matter. I covered my eyes and played blind. Covered my ears and played deaf.
Because I didn’t have any leverage.
Until that day in the internet café–I found my leverage.
I never brought up the “no other girls” rule again. But every time he got even slightly close to one, I didn’t argue, didn’t complain. I just grabbed my bag, turned around, and headed straight for the study room.
And then, in the next exam’s ranking list–I quietly climbed a whole page.
That’s when Gabriel gave in.
He started avoiding every other girl on his own–even Rebecca, his childhood sweetheart.
And in return, I held up my end of the deal, I locked myself in at the very bottom of the grade rankings, completely and utterly.
Gabriel’s most radiant, reckless youth finally belonged to me–and me
alone.

And I was satisfied.
Rebecca, on the other hand, couldn’t take it anymore. She finally exploded.

“So it’s one thing for you to avoid me in front of Evelyn, but she’s not even here right now, and you’re still acting like some loyal widow?
“Gabriel, don’t tell me you’ve actually fallen for that bookworm?”
Gabriel’s expression shifted. He shoved her off, clearly annoyed.
“Weren’t you the one who made that bet?
“If I hadn’t ‘stayed loyal‘ to her, how the hell do you think you kept getting first place?
“And now that you’ve got what you wanted, you’re turning around and biting me?
“I never told you to take it that far!”
Rebecca grabbed his collar in a fit of rage.
“Where the hell have you two been these past two weeks since the SAT?! What did you do with that bitch? Huh? Say it!”
What did we do?
Obviously–what any adult would do.
From sunset to sunrise, again and again, without rest.
I knew why Gabriel had suddenly become so clingy. And I was more than willing to help him compose our grand, final symphony.
But I’d seriously underestimated his stamina. After trying to call it off

several times and failing, I only managed to escape when he went to take
a shower.
That’s the only reason I had time–half a month after the exam–to hurriedly estimate my test score.
Of course, Gabriel couldn’t say any of that out loud. He just looked away in silence, fingers absentmindedly rolling a burnt–out cigarette between them.
Fuming, Rebecca stomped her foot and raised her hand like she was about to slap him. But in the end, she just yanked him down and kissed him hard.
This time, Gabriel didn’t pull away.
I rested my fingers lightly on the window frame and began silently counting in my head.
Gabriel loved deep kisses.
When he kissed, he always started by lightly biting the corner of your mouth–slow, nibbling, rodent–like. He’d tease and graze, just enough to make your nerves itch, before finally prying your mouth open and plunging in, full assault–until there wasn’t a breath of air left between
you.
It always took exactly two minutes.
My fingers tapped the wood, slow and steady.
And just as the string of spit stretched thin between their parted lips, I calmly pushed open the door.
