Chapter 1
After three years studying abroad, my boyfriend always puts thick pillows under my waist whenever we get intimate.
I asked him why.
He just smiled and said, “Tested and proven. This position makes it easiest to get pregnant.“[]

I thought he was just scared after being apart for three years.
Until he was in the shower and I suddenly got a video from his assistant.
In the video, a woman was in the same position as me, her belly slightly swollen.
Ethan loomed over her, claiming her hungrily.[]

With trembling fingers, I called Ethan’s worst enemy.
“I’m getting married on the 10th of this month. Come crash my wedding.“[]
“Crash your wedding? Come on, Lily. Everyone knows Ethan’s crazy about you–totally obsessed. You take off with me and the guy might literally drop dead at the altar.”
I let out a cold laugh.]]
Crazy about me? Obsessed? Right. Obsessed enough to knock up his side piece.[]
“Just answer the question–you doing this or not?”
Marcus drawled, “What do I get out of it?“]
I paused, thinking fast. “Your grandmother’s been breathing down your neck about getting married, hasn’t she? Her health’s not great either. You pull this off, you embarrass the hell out of the Blackwoods and get yourself a wife in one move. Pretty solid deal.“[]
A low chuckle came through the phone.]]
After a moment, he said just one word: “Deal.“[]
That evening, Ethan came home early.
Maybe it was because I’d jokingly mentioned calling off the engagement earlier–it must’ve freaked him out. He showed up with a necklace and flowers
All night he was clingy as hell. When I asked what was up with him, he just held me tighter.[]
“Lily, don’t joke about stuff like that anymore. It’ll kill me.”

I closed my eyes, keeping my face blank.
When Ethan found out the truth back then, it nearly killed me too.[]
Guess now we’re both gonna die a little. Only fair.]
When I came out of the bedroom, I was surprised to see Ethan still sitting in the living room.]
He looked up when he heard me. “There’s this charity gala tonight. Mrs. Harrison’s putting up that Ocean Heart diamond for auction. Want me to bid on it for you?“[]
I looked at him, feeling my chest tighten. He remembered every casual comment I made, remembered everything I liked. Didn’t stop him from cheating though.
Half an hour later, a sleek Maserati pulled up to the auction house entrance.[]
The second I stepped out, I heard a woman’s voice.
“Mr. Blackwood, I’ve got both invitations ready–yours and Miss Williams’s.“]]
I turned around to see Sophie dressed way too lightly for the weather, her face pale from the cold.[]
The next second, I heard Ethan’s irritated voice: “It’s freezing out here. Why didn’t you wait inside?“]
Chapter 1
Sophie timidly bit her lip. “I… I was afraid I’d miss you.“[
Just like that, I could feel Ethan’s breathing get uneven.[]
He was worried about her.
I looked down, unable to stop the bitter feeling in my chest.
“Lily, some clients have been calling Sophie unsophisticated at the company. I thought I’d bring her along to see how things are done, so she doesn’t embarrass our company. Don’t overthink it.“]
I gave him a dismissive “Mm–hmm” and headed into the ballroom first.[]
For this charity auction, I specifically brought three pairs of pearl earrings to donate, worth three hundred thousand total.
In the end, Ethan bid them all back for a total of one million.[]
Hearing all the bidding calls echoing through the venue, Sophie thought of something and said nervously, “Mr. Blackwood, are all the donated items at auctions this expensive? I didn’t know before…“)
Right as she finished speaking, the auctioneer on stage displayed the next item.
“Item number thirty–two, handmade wishing stars donated by Miss Sophie Williams, starting bid one dollar.“]]
The room immediately erupted in laughter.
“One dollar? Are you kidding me? She actually had the nerve to donate that junk?”
“Everyone here’s somebody important, and this nobody somehow snuck in? Can we get security to throw her out?”
Sophie’s face turned red and purple from the mockery, and she buried her head in shame. Ethan’s expression instantly darkened, and he had his assistant raise the paddle.

“Number seventeen, Mr. Blackwood bids three hundred million!“]
The entire room gasped.

Hearing the whispers behind us, Sophie ran out of the ballroom with tears
Ethan immediately chased after her.
The stares around me got even more intense. I stood up
The hallway was quiet–I could clearly hear Sophie’s choked sobs.
“Mr. Blackwood, let’s just… let’s end this here, okay…”

I slowly wiped away my tears, then turned and walked away.
