In the hospital, Liam had bandages
everywhere.
His assistant nervously stood nearby, giving him an update.
Ever since his disastrous engagement party,
Liam had become even more erratic, his
temper unbearable.
The whole office was working overtime, trying
to track Jane’s every move.
“Ms. Jiang has… disappeared.”
“Avalanche, buried… not…”
Liam’s heart stopped, his eyes unfocused.
Before his assistant could finish, Liam threw
a cup against the wall.
“Bullshit! Get out!”
He went mad, ignoring his broken ribs, and
went to investigate himself.
The response was still the same. She was
gone.
News channels were reporting about a major
avalanche in Western Europe.
“She’s alright.” Liam said, shaking his head.
‘She’s too smart to get herself killed. She must be hiding somewhere.”
He was already preparing his private jet to go to Europe, and bring her home.
But he was intercepted on his way out of the hospital, and forcefully brought back to his
room.
Mrs. Miller had to tie him to the bed and
sedate him.
She’d never seen her son so deranged.
Liam had brought that girl home once, but
that girl didn’t come from a good background,
had too many issues and heavy baggage.
Mrs. Miller had seen plenty of girls like that in
her life, and didn’t want her son to go down
that path.
“Mom, please let me go to her.”
Liam pleaded, pale and weak on the bed.
She gave in, as long as he rested, she’d help
him find her.
The Millers used every single contact they
had, but nothing, only a journal and a
pregnancy report.
Jane was three months pregnant.
Liam’s eyes burned as he opened her journal.
Liam Miller:
You once said that lovers who see the
Northern Lights are destined to meet again. Sadly, we didn’t get to see them together, and now we’re separated.
I brought the baby to see it, the lights are
beautiful. If you were here, you would have been amazed by the magic of nature.
Oh, and I’m pregnant. Even though you were careful, this life still appeared, a sign that
we’re connected somehow?
I wanted to go back home and tell you about
the baby.
I wanted to use it to keep you close, as evil
as it sounds.
The news is saying you’re getting married to
Ashley, so I canceled my ticket. Everything I
experience, even a regular cloud, I wanted to
share it with you.
Before, I would never allow myself to think.
this. I knew our differences, that’s why I never
<
stopped pushing, so I could be worthy of you.
The snow is taking us now, me and my baby
might not make it out.
I guess we were never meant to be.
Liam sobbed, tears falling onto the page.
The last entry was from February 20th, their
ten year anniversary.
The last line of her journal was:
“Liam, I wish you happiness with your new
wife, and I hope you have a son soon.”

Liam had changed, staring blankly out the
window.
In the last few days, Liam had been reliving all
the moments he’d spent with Jane.
They had been together for ten years.
Ten years, day in, day out.
They had supported each other, become one.
He’d lost himself in her, completely.
It was more than physical, it was spiritual
connection.
After spending some time with Ashley, he
understood.
He didn’t want someone docile.
He wanted someone that would know his
Itu messed up.
And he lost them.
Where was he when that was all happening?
Oh, yeah, he was busy getting engaged to
someone else.
Liam’s chest felt like it was about to explode.
He laid on the bed, barely getting by on IV
fluids.
Mark came to see him, and yelled, seeing the
state he was in:
“Where was that before? Now you’re
pretending to be heartbroken?”

Liam tried to get up, but he was too weak, so he glared back.
“She’s not dead! She’s alright! She and the baby are safe!”
If Liam wasn’t in such bad shape, Mark would have beaten him.
“Well go look for her, then! Don’t just lay
here!”
And those words seemed to have done the
trick. Liam got up, and started eating food
like he was starving.
His stomach was a mess, and he ended up
throwing it all up.
Ashley came to see Liam.
She was annoyed at what happened, but Jane
was dead, there was no point in fighting with a ghost.
She figured she could do it all.
Liam was good–looking, rich, and she was actually falling for him.
Maybe things would work out in the end.
And as long as she had a baby, she’d be
secure.
But as soon as she walked into the room,
Liam started choking her.
“If it wasn’t for you, she wouldn’t have left with our baby!”
“How dare you show your face in front of
me!”
“It’s your fault, it’s all your fault!”
He tightened his grip, and Ashley couldn’t
even yell for help.
Liam had lost it completely.
If Mrs. Miller hadn’t arrived on time, who
knows what would have happened.
Mr. Miller was furious and sent Liam to
therapy.

AAAAK
While recovering, Liam planned his escape.
And one day, when the staff was changing shifts, he took off, running to the woman he loved.
And he spent years searching the mountains
for them.

Three years later.
I was vacationing on an island in the South
Pacific.
The little kid next to me waved his hands,
“Gimme some ice cream, please!”
“Call me Daddy, and you’ll get it.”
“Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!”
“Don’t spoil him, he’ll get cavities,” I warned.
But the two of them were already running off.
I rolled my eyes and put my sunglasses back
- on.
Suddenly, my skin tingled as the pressure on
my back increased.
I frowned, “Hey, easy!”
The breathing behind me was heavier, but I
ignored it.
spine and pushed hard on the sensitive area.
I let out a moan, but thank god there weren’t
people around to hear it.
I angrily turned around, and saw Liam’s face.
He looked so gaunt, and there were dark
circles under his eyes, like he hadn’t slept well
in months.
“Do you know how long I’ve been searching
for you?” Liam started, tearing up. “I thought
you were really…”
“What, you’re upset I’m still alive?” I asked
calmly.
Liam’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice
hell to find you. If someone hadn’t seen you
here, I’d never have seen you again.”
“So? What, you’re made of gold?”
I got up, but Liam grabbed my wrist and
pulled me to him.
“I’ve been looking for three years!
“Three years, I spent every cold night reading
that journal you left me.
“I don’t care about anything anymore, as long
as I’m with you.
“And even if you lied, I’m still so stupidly in
love with you.
<
“Isn’t that enough?”
“Do you have no consideration for my
feelings for you?”
Liam yelled, his eyes full of pain.
“Jane, do you even have a heart?”
As Liam and I struggled, the kid came back,
and stuck two ice cream cones onto Liam’s
knees.
“Bad man, let go!”
Liam looked down at the kid who looked so
much like him.
“Is he…mine?”
く
Before I could say anything, the kid yelled:
“Daddy, help! There’s a bad man!”
Liam turned pale, through clenched teeth.
“You let my son call another man Daddy!”
Chet rushed back, and punched Liam in the
face.
Liam wiped the blood and told his
bodyguards to stand back.
“Jane, come home with me.”
“Or I’ll kill that pretty boy.”
Chet went crazy at the challenge.
“You old man! You’re threatening me!”
<
Chet’s bodyguards surrounded Liam.
His family had the means to make sure he
wouldn’t get hurt, but I didn’t want to get too
close to them.
“Our baby’s gone,” I said.
I didn’t say anything else, but pulled the kid
away.
Liam and his bodyguards moved forward, but
were stopped by Chet’s people.
“Don’t go, you said you loved me!”
“I don’t believe everything in that journal was
fake!”
<
His desperate cries echoed all around us.
Three years ago, I was being monitored.
constantly.
So I used my connections to shut everything
down.
And I gave Liam a gift.
I wanted him to remember me always, how I
and his child died, while he was busy having
fun with someone else.
I wanted to amplify his guilt, so for the rest of
his life, his happy moments would be filled
with pain.
The journal was partially fake.
r
The kid’s mom was my business partner, and I
adopted him.
Liam got his hands on a hair sample from the
kid, but his DNA test destroyed his soul.
He had to accept that our child was gone.
And on the day he was supposed to get
married, that child was part of someone
else’s family.
A happy family.
14
Liam didn’t go back home. He managed to
find my address.
<
I wasn’t surprised, after three years, he would
finally know where I was.
I’d gotten over him. And there was no reason.
to hide.
“Jane, please let me make it up to you,
please?”
Liam stopped me, begging me, something
that wasn’t normal for him.
I stopped, looking at the man I’d spent so
much time with.
“If everything can be made up for, then what
about me three years ago, when I was in my
darkest moment?”
“Liam, we’re adults, let’s act like it.”
<
I paused, remembering something he’d said:
“Let’s call it a day.”
Liam moved forward, but my assistant, Caleb,
blocked his way.
“Sir, please respect her space.” Caleb was
polite but firm. “If you continue to bother her,
I’ll have no choice but to take legal
measures.”
Caleb opened the car door, and guided me
into the car.
Liam glared at Caleb.
“Who are you?”
<
After I was in, Caleb handed his card to Liam.
“I’m Ms. Jiang’s personal assistant, Caleb. If
you need to speak to her, make an
appointment.”
As the car drove away, I looked back.
Liam’s fists were clenched, and he was still
staring at us.
I chuckled, and said to Caleb, “Hey, I didn’t
know you were so good at messing with
people.”
Caleb said nothing, “It’s part of my job.”
Right, not very fun.
Lwent book to work
<
I went back to work.
Caleb was staring at my reflection in the
mirror.

Thanks to Caleb, I barely saw Liam.
I gave him a raise and a 2% commission on
top of his year–end bonus.
Caleb nodded and gave me a cup of hot
lemon water, with a heating pad for my
stomach.
I facepalmed myself. I finally knew why I’d
been so irritated lately.
My period was coming
<
My period was coming.
I plopped down on the couch, and Caleb laid
out my meal in front of me.
“Hey, this isn’t what I usually have!”
Caleb handed me a fork and spoon. “This is
chicken soup I made. Try to stay off takeout
for a few days.”
I sighed, homemade food was hard to reject.
But I was trying to diet!
Caleb had already filled a bowl and passed it
to me.
“I skimmed the fat. It won’t make you gain
く
weight.”
“Whoever marries you is going to be the
luckiest person on the planet,” I said.
Caleb was watching me eat, a strange look
flashed on his face.
He opened his mouth, but he was interrupted.
“Mommy! Mommy!”
“Jane! Me and your son came to see you!”
The kid and Chet ran up to me, but Caleb
held them back.
“Mommy, can we go to the amusement
park?” The kid grabbed my leg.
I tried to smile as I was clutching my
stomach.
“Maybe another day. Mommy’s not feeling
well.”
The kid tilted his head and said, “You’re going
to have a baby, right?”
He patted my stomach. “You’re finally going
to give daddy a baby girl!”
1?
I glared at Chet, who was pretending to be
invisible in the corner.
Caleb grabbed the kid and dragged him.
outside.
