Chapter 18

Two years later, Concordia Airport.
I pushed my luggage, occasionally glancing around at the changes. The lab’s first experiment took two years, unexpectedly. But the results were perfect, and my professor gave us a two–month break.
I was finally back in Concordia. For a moment, I felt a pang of emotion; it had been two years since I left this city. But things were
different…
My gaze softened as I saw Marcus’s excited figure beside me. Two years ago, I left alone. Now, we were returning together. And
this time, we had an important task to accomplish.
Marcus checked his watch, grabbed my wrist, and started jogging. “Jane, we’re going to be late!”
When Alexa learned I was returning to Concordia, she immediately insisted on throwing a welcome party. Two years apart, we needed to catch up. I missed my old friends, so I agreed. The party was scheduled for the day we landed.
We arrived at the restaurant just as the appointed time arrived. Marcus pulled me hurriedly inside.
I thought I saw a familiar figure on the stairs, but I dismissed it as a blurry image from rushing. Finding our private room was
more important.
Meanwhile, Dominic clutched his chest, his eyes brimming with uncontainable excitement. He was overwhelmed with joy at regaining what he’d lost.
Two years. He’d waited two whole years to see Jane again. No one knew how he’d spent those long nights alone in that empty
house.
Initially, he suffered sleepless nights. Even when he eventually drifted off, the first words upon waking were Jane’s name.
But only silence answered. No one made him breakfast anymore, and no one waited for his return. He searched the entire house, but found no trace of Jane’s belongings. Even their matching pajamas were gone.
He kept only the calendar on his bedside table. Even though it contained Jane’s breakup note, it was the only thing she’d left him.
And he stubbornly believed that as long as he didn’t agree, they weren’t broken up.
He just needed to see Jane again, explain that he’d mistaken his savior, that he’d completely severed ties with Beverly, and the
child was gone.
