Chapter 70
The sorcerer’s voice was unyielding, his words dripping with finality. “To awaken her power, she needs to be touched by my spell. And you… unwittingly made it happen.“”
Joseph shook his head violently, his breath ragged. “No… no, that’s impossible…”
I let out a quiet sigh, tilting my head slightly as I observed him. “I guess your time is really up.” My voice carried no emotion, no sympathy. “You’re nothing more than a sacrifice.“/
Joseph’s entire body trembled. The next moment, he lurched forward and dropped to his knees, his sobs so violent they sounded like something inside him was being torn apart. His hands clutched at the hem of my clothes, his grip feverish, desperate.!
“Elisa, I beg you… please… please fofgive me…” His voice cracked, hoarse and broken. “I swear–I truly fell for you. I thought… I thought you felt something for me too…“}
I lowered my gaze, looking down at the man who had dragged me through three years of misery. Now, he was the one crumbling, reduced to a pitiful mess, sobbing harder than a dying dog.
But I felt nothing. No satisfaction, no anger–just emptiness.
“You should have died a long time ago, right?” I murmured, my voice steady, as cold as ice.”
“Luckily,” I continued, my tone light, “I don’t even need to dirty my hands. The life you fought so hard to keep? It will last only three more days.“”
A sharp, agonized wail tore from Joseph’s throat. He clutched my ankle with trembling fingers, his grip like iron, unwilling to let go.”
“I’ll give you anything! Everything I have–I’ll sign it all under your name! Spend it however you want–I won’t stop you!”
I gazed down at him, my voice quiet but cutting. “But you’re going to die anyway. So wouldn’t all of it be mine in the end?“}
Joseph froze. His breath hitched, his sobs turning into silent gasps. His grip on my ankle loosened, his fingers falling away. He sat there, stunned, motionless, tears continuing to stream down his pale face.”
But no matter how much he wept, no matter how many times he choked on his pleas, I was no longer listening. I turned, stepping toward the door.”
The sorcerer followed in silence. But before we could leave, Sean moved, his body stepping between us, blocking our path.
“You can’t take her.” His voice was low, barely restrained, but the anger in his tone was unmistakable.
The sorcerer barely spared him a glance. “I won’t harm her.“”
Sean clenched his jaw, his fists curling at his sides. “You say you won’t hurt her, but you want her to remember her past life, don’t you? You want to drag her back into your world–she was living just fine here. What right do you have to do this?”
“Because I waited an entire lifetime for her.” The sorcerer’s voice was calm, undisturbed.
Sean’s eyes darkened, his fury boiling over. “But she never asked you to wait. The her in this life doesn’t even remember you. What you’re doing is trying to change her.“”
The moment his words fell, both men moved. The air cracked.}
Magic erupted.
The space around us twisted as power exploded in the air. The sorcerer’s palm descendèd, a frost–like force sweeping forward. The world shuddered under the weight of his magic.”
Sean barely had time to react. He staggered back, his body slamming into the wall, blood trailing from the corner of his lips. His breathing was ragged, his knees nearly buckling beneath him.”
I stared in disbelief. He couldn’t even take one hit from the sorcerer?
The sorcerer, however, remained unfazed, his expression unreadable.
“If not for the fact that you’ve protected her all these years,” he murmured, “I wouldn’t have held back just now.“}
Sean wiped the blood from his mouth, his eyes sharp, filled with nothing but raw determination. His gaze locked onto mine, unwavering. “Elisa, don’t go.” His voice was hoarse, desperate. “If you follow him–you will lose yourself.“”
“That’s enough.” My voice trembled slightly, but my resolve didn’t waver.”
I stepped forward, catching Sean before he could collapse completely. His body tensed at my touch, his hands grasping weakly at my arm.
“You’re no match for him,” I whispered, my grip firm. “Don’t throw your life away for me.”
Sean parted his lips, as if to protest. But when our eyes met, he faltered. He saw the certainty in my gaze, the decision already made. His lips pressed into a tight line.
“I’m leaving with him because I choose to. I trust that he won’t hurt me.“}

stepped aside.”
I turned and followed the sorcerer. The deeper we walked into the forest behind the Gray’s estate, the more the familiar world faded. The towering trees swallowed the last traces of light. The wind whispered through the branches, carrying the
scent of damp earth and something ancient, something powerful.%
Beyond the thickets, hidden deep within the endless shadows, stood a manor.%
A place where silence reigned.
