Chapter 9
Jack and Lily looked at me in disbelief.
They thought I was soft–hearted.
く
My kindness had a precondition: my love.
I loved him, so I submitted to him.
Now that I didn’t, I would show them my
ruthlessness.
Jack was a house husband; his expenses were
all paid by me.
If we separated due to incompatibility, I’d give
him what was due.
But he hurt my mother.
I wanted to see how much Lily meant to him.
Money vs. Lily, what would he choose?
Jack yelled, “Nora, how dare you make such a
demand!”
Ignoring him, I glanced at Lily, “Lily, the offer’s

“If you make Jack agree to leave with nothing,
I’ll drop the charges against your mother.”
Lily looked at Jack, then at me.
She whispered, “Nora, I’m just an outsider, I
don’t want to interfere.”
“Jack loves you, why are you doing this?”
“I’m at fault, please don’t be angry at Jack,
forgive my mother.”
I scoffed, “Lily, you’re still acting and stirring
things up. You don’t care about your mother!”
Lily’s face turned red.
“Enough!”
Jack shouted, pointing at me.
Г
“Nora, how could you become like this!?”
“Want a divorce? Fine, but it’s you who leaves
with nothing, not me.”
you disagree, I won’t sign.”
I laughed. “Jack, I gave you your confidence.”
“What will you bargain with now?”
“Won’t sign? Fine, I’ll sue you too. It wasn’t only
me who saw you marrying another woman while
married to me.”
Jack was speechless.
I gave them an ultimatum.
“I’ll give you three days. Leave now.”
Jack retorted, “This is my house too, you can’t

I shrugged. “You can stay, but your wife must
leave, or I’ll call security.”
Lily’s phone rang.
“What? My mom’s in the hospital?”
“Okay, I’m coming.”
She looked at Jack anxiously. “Jack, my mom
fainted, what do we do?”
Jack comforted her. “Lily, don’t worry, she’ll be
fine.”
But Lily was close to breaking down, “Fine?
Jack, agree to Nora’s demands.”
“Lily, what are you saying?”
“Jack, didn’t you say you loved me? We can be
together if you divorce her!”

Jack looked at me, I didn’t look back, but went
to my room.
I don’t know how Lily persuaded Jack.
A few days later, I received the signed divorce
papers.
Jack agreed to leave with nothing if I dropped
the charges.
Lily really meant a lot to him.
Three days later, I finally got my divorce papers.
I was relieved.
I thought Jack and I were done.
But six months later, he reappeared.
“Nora, how are you?”

But six months later, he reappeared.
“Nora, how are you?”
Seeing his haggard face, I frowned, “What do
you want?”
“Nora, I was wrong, I apologize. Give me
another chance, let’s remarry.”

Behind me, a young man spoke, “Sir, my wife’s
already married. Go away.”
Ethan placed our wedding certificate in front of
Jack.
Ignoring Jack’s despair, Ethan kissed my
forehead.
I realized happiness could be so simple.
