Chapter 5
With that, I pulled the divorce papers from my bag and threw them at his feet.]
This was what I’d wanted to do since the moment I saw him with Ava.]]
Griffin’s face turned ghostly pale. He wanted to take the microphone to control the chaotic atmosphere, but also tried to grab my arm, desperate to explain himself.
“Nora, do you really hate seeing me happy? I already told you–if you’d just keep quiet about this, we could be a family of three again.“[]
A family of three?
In his version, anyone could be included except me.[]
And I was done deceiving myself. I shook off his hand, my voice cold.[]
“Just sign the papers. We have nothing more to discuss. I wish you happiness.”
Griffin shook his head vehemently.]
“I won’t sign. I refuse to divorce you, Nora. You can forget it!”
When I’d contacted a lawyer to draft the divorce agreement, he’d advised that I could demand Griffin leave the marriage with nothing.
After all, he had openly fathered a child with another woman during our marriage. Whatever his reasons or excuses, this was irrefutable evidence of his betrayal.]]
But investigation and court proceedings would take too much time.
I was about to leave here, and even if I took that money, I’d have nowhere to spend it. So I only took what was rightfully mine and arranged for my lawyer to donate it all to rural schools after my departure.
Griffin and I had nothing left to say to each other.
With that thought, I cast a final glance at the chaotic scene, then turned to leave.
Seeing this, Griffin handed the baby to his mother and moved to follow me.]
“Nora, wait! Let me explain…“[]
But before he took more than a few steps, Ava suddenly clutched her chest, gasping dramatically.[]
“Griffin, ! can’t breathe! The shock was too much… I think I’m dying!“]]
Hearing this, Griffin froze in his tracks, immediately turning back to cradle Ava in his arms.
“Ava, are you okay? Hang on, I’ll get you to the hospital right away!“]
His decision didn’t surprise me in the least. After all, this wasn’t the first time he’d abandoned me for Ava.
And me? I’d grown accustomed to his repeated betrayals and abandonments.
By now, my heart had been wounded so many times that it was riddled with scars. I’d grown numb to the pain.
In the end, Griffin could only watch helplessly as I walked away. He told himself that once everything settled down, he could talk things through with
me
As long as he refused to sign the divorce papers, our relationship would never truly end.
This thought gave him some comfort.
But what he didn’t realize was that from the moment he and Ava conceived their child, from the instant he betrayed our love–we were already over.
