I couldn’t help but scoff at his overconfidence.
After the staff took blood samples from me, Brianna, and Chloe, I asked them to go ahead and get Gregory’s sample as well.
Gregory stared at me like I’d lost my mind. “Kaia, are you insane? There’s no question Chloe is my daughter!”
I smirked, unfazed. “Let’s just get it done while we’re here.”
Though Chloe didn’t understand why I wanted Gregory tested too, she trusted me enough to make a scene, pushing him to agree to it.
Gregory, who had practically been treating Chloe like his princess, couldn’t say no.
As we were heading out, Brianna’s son George finally showed up, running late, and holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Sister!” he called sweetly to Chloe, handing her the flowers and leaning in for a hug.
Chloe didn’t even try to hide her disgust. She shoved him away like he was a total stranger.
“Don’t touch me!”
George, looking like he thought he had the charm, was momentarily stunned by her reaction.
Brianna quickly jumped in, trying to smooth things over. “Chloe, this is your brother! You should love him!”
Chloe rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. “The test results aren’t back yet. Don’t go calling him family just yet.”
I watched the scene unfold with a casual, almost bored, smile.
“I’ll let you all have your moment,” I said, before turning to Gregory, my voice cool. “But Gregory, let’s go get that divorce.”
No assets to fight over, no kids to argue about—getting the divorce was ridiculously easy. We didn’t even need to sign anything. We just walked out with the certificate.
Brianna was completely caught off guard. She’d probably expected me to drag things out, but there I was, done with it all.
Chloe stood by me, solid as a rock. Brianna’s smug expression quickly shifted to one of envy as she watched us together.
Once Chloe went off to grab the car, Brianna took her shot. She turned to me with a venomous grin.
“Kaia, Gregory never loved you! Do you know why Chloe is named Chloe? It’s because there’s a ‘Soph’ in my name!”
Gregory, clearly thinking he was on top of the world, wrapped his arms around Brianna, wearing a smug look that made my skin crawl.
“Once the DNA test comes back, Chloe will be ours,” he declared proudly.
George, no longer pretending to be sweet, dropped the act and joined in with the gloating.
“Now all the money’s Chloe’s! Once the test results are in, you’ll be out on the streets!”
I didn’t dignify their words with a response. They could bark all they wanted; it wouldn’t change anything.
Gregory, convinced he had won, finally let his mask slip and showed his true colors.
“You’ve held onto Johnson Group for so long. It’s my turn now.”
I couldn’t stop myself from laughing, the sound cold and sharp.
“So you really were just using Chloe to get your hands on Johnson Group, weren’t you?”
Gregory didn’t even flinch. “And? Now that all the assets are in Chloe’s name, once the test results come back, I’ll be the one running everything.”
I met his gaze, my eyes like ice, my smile thin and mocking.
“Well, Gregory, let’s see if you really have the luck to take control of Johnson Group.”
