Chapter 1
“Julissa, this is just a temporary break in our mate bond. Once Kendra’s surgery is over, we’ll
rebond.”
The next second, a small glass vial filled with a silver–glowing liquid was pressed into my hand.
“I didn’t want you to suffer,” Landon said, his voice soft but confident. “That’s why I asked my beta
to bring you this from the Northern Border. It’s called Oblivion Drop. For the next three days, no
matter how close I get to Kendra, you won’t feel a thing.”
“When it wears off,” he added, “you’ll love me even more than before.”
I stared into his eyes–those warm, storm–gray eyes I’d loved for half my life. My voice trembled as
I nodded and raised the vial to my lips, downing the liquid in one breath.
A piercing howl echoed inside me.
It was my wolf–wailing in agony as our mate bond was severed.
What Landon didn’t know… was that Oblivion Drop came with a price.
The potion dulled memory and numbed emotion only if your mate nurtured and protected you
through the entire effect window. But if you were hurt again while under its influence… it didn’t just
erase love. It severed instinct. The bond couldn’t be reforged. Ever.
Landon pulled me close by the waist, still clinging to some ridiculous fantasy.
“Don’t worry, Julissa,” he whispered against my ear. “After this… I’ll love you more, too.”
I turned in his arms, fingers lightly brushing the features of the man I once thought was my
forever.
Oblivion Drop wasn’t some common tonic. It was a secret formula my brother Mason had spent years perfecting before he died. And now, I was the only one left who knew the truth.
The thought that in just three days, Landon’s name might vanish from my mind completely–it
made the room spin.
I remembered an afternoon not long ago. We were curled up on the couch, watching Before
Midnight in Greece. I asked him if he thought couples who stopped loving each other should part ways like they did in the movie.
His eyes turned glassy. He crushed me in his arms like he could fuse me to his bones.
“Julissa,” he swore, “I love you. If we ever part, it’ll be because death took us–nothing else.”

But here we were. Still breathing. Still alive. And yet… he was the one severing our bond with his
own hands.
My eyes stung. I looked up at him and whispered, “Landon… aren’t you scared I’ll never love you again?”
His gaze darkened. “Don’t you dare,” he growled, grabbing my face and crashing his mouth against mine in a bruising kiss.
It wasn’t passion. It was punishment. Alpha possessiveness cloaked in desperation.
“You promised me,” he hissed. “You said you’d love me for the rest of your life!”
Once, that vow had made my heart race. Now, it just made my chest ache.
After all, it was his hand that had forced the Oblivion Drop between my lips.
I lowered my eyes, swallowing the burn rising in my throat.
Landon pulled me into his arms again, his voice gentler this time. “I know this hurts. But I had no
choice.”
“When Kendra recovers, I’ll end things with her. For good. Then we’ll go see the northern lights together, just like you wanted.”
I nodded silently, biting down on my lip to keep from falling apart.
Seven years ago, Landon was struck by a rare blood curse–one that slowly severed the bond
between an Alpha and his wolf. If it wasn’t broken in time, he wouldn’t survive the next full moon.
Back then, I knelt beneath the Moon Temple and made a vow: if he died, I’d follow him into the
afterlife.
Then we discovered the truth–Kendra, his ex, was the only one whose blood could break his curse.
I swallowed every last shred of pride, fell to my knees, and begged her through tears to save his life.
Since then, Landon had given everything to her. And I’d never once complained.
Because it wasn’t just his debt. It was ours.
Lost in those memories, I didn’t hear the sound of the suitcase being dragged downstairs until it was right beneath the packhouse.
Landon stood in the doorway, his expression tight. “Julissa… Kendra’s not doing well. I need to stay with her the next few days.”
“But in three days,” he added, “our life will be back to normal.”

He kissed my forehead and left without another word.
I stood there, staring at the table full of food I’d cooked–every dish made with care.
Not a single bite touched.
He used to eat with me no matter how busy he was. Said I had the hands of a goddess, and swore one
day the whole packlands would know my cooking.
Now, I didn’t even have the right to ask him to taste a spoonful.
But it didn’t matter anymore.
In three days, I wouldn’t remember any of this.
Not the way he smiled when he complimented my cooking. Not the way his voice turned cold when
he mentioned her.
Our mate bond would be gone.
And L….
I’d finally be free.
