Chapter 7

Sure enough, when I opened the GroupMe, there were already 99+ messages in our class group chat.

I quickly scrolled to the top and discovered that while I was sleeping the night before, Drew had posted a

long message.

This text message laid out every single one of his expenses during the time we were together. It included stuff like the lipstick he got me for my birthday, the movies we went to see, and all the meals we had.

He made himself out to be the poor, wronged victim, saying that I was a total gold digger who just dumped him as soon as I found some richer guy.

“Maddie was always blowing through my cash when we were an item. She was constantly asking for gifts,

and I put up with it!

‘But lately, she started dating some trust fund kid and gave me the boot. And now she’s talking smack about me all over the place. I’m not gonna take this lying down! I hope all our classmates can see this gold digger for what she really is!”

I was stunned!

Opening the attached images revealed a long essay bed written, casting himself as a devoted victim who had willingly sacrificed for me for years.

According to his story, after I met a wealthy man, I coldly kicked him aside and spread nasty rumors about

him.

Reading through his fabricated narrative, I was outraged by how he completely twisted the facts!

The reason for his lies was obvious-he feared I would expose his fake rich-boy charade, so he was preemptively smearing my reputation.

This way, no one would believe anything I said.

Honestly, I never expected Drew to be so vicious.

By painting me as a gold digger who dumped him for a richer man, even if untrue, many people would

believe it.

This kind of salacious gossip is exactly what people love to consume.

Everyone would think where there’s smoke, there’s fire” and “it takes two to tango.”

If I couldn’t produce solid evidence to counter this, my reputation would be ruined for all four years of

college.

But these two were clearly in such a rush that they hadn’t thought things through before posting.

I ground my teeth and opened the group chat.

The class group was indeed exploding with discussion.

A girl who never liked me seized the opportunity to pile on:

“I know Maddie. That girl gives off such a sleazy vibe. I always figured she was up to no good, probably always plotting to land some rich dudes.”

“I never saw this coming at all. I always thought she seemed kind of innocent. She dresses so conservatively-there’s no way she’d do something like that, right?”

“What do you mean ‘no way’? These days, gold diggers are pros at faking it. I’ve seen her walking around with a Chanel bag. Where on earth would a college student get the money for that?”

Soon everyone was discussing it. Someone even posted the message on the Instagram and TikTok, and people were debating heatedly.

I clenched my fists. These two were so vicious, they really wanted to destroy me.

Alright, then I played along with you guys.
