A week back, Cole came home whistling. He pulled two fancy tickets from his bag.
“Buddy just opened a travel agency. Snagged these promo deals. Figured your folks would love a getaway.”
I checked the tickets. Pricey: $800 each, flights extra. Not some cheap bus tour.
Holding them felt off. “Cole, you always said my parents traveling was a waste. What changed?”
He flopped on the sofa. “Eh, what else do old folks do? They’ve got cash, pensions… seeing the world’s good
for them.”
It sounded nice. Looking at the Northwest tour tickets, I called my parents right away.
After hanging up, Cole grinned. “Happy?”
‘Totally!” I nodded. “How about two more tickets? Send your folks too. They can all hang out.”
‘No way! They can’t go!” He blurted it out.
[ frowned. “Why not? Cost? I’ll pitch in. Four of them together, are more safer, right?”
Cole always said his parents were simple country people. Besides our wedding, they barely left their farm.
Having never traveled before, now is the perfect chance for my well-traveled parents to take them along.
They can look out for each other on the trip, which should minimize problems.
He frowned, thinking hard. “They’re country people, Riles. Not cut out for fancy trips like this. Stick to stuff
near home is enough.”
“That’s crazy! Everyone deserves a shot! They worked their whole lives!” I grabbed my phone. “Gimme your buddy’s agency info. I’ll get their tickets.”
Cole stood up, pulling me close. “Babe, it’s a new travel agency. Promo tickets are gone. Next time, okay? When we go somewhere, we’ll bring ’em.”
He paused. “Oh, book your folks’ flights. Tickets get swapped in person. I’m flying out for work tomorrow – you handle it.”
He shut it down hard. I dropped it.
That night, once he was asleep, I snuck to the living room. Searched online for the agency on the tickets.

But… nothing.
“Too new?” I muttered.
But when I think about how Cole only sent my parents on this trip while leaving his own parents at home, I can’t help feeling a bit guilty about it.
So I called my parents’ usual travel agent. “Hey, got any new deals?”
Agent replied fast: “Sure thing, Riley! Same great package.”
$180 each, flights not included. Packed schedule, crazy cheap.
rusted them for years, so I sent the cash.
Felt better, I went back to bed.
