Chapter 6
Orion’s mother froze.
She opened her mouth, ready to lash out–but stopped herself.
She finally understood: I wasn’t the girl she used to manipulate at will That version of me was gone.
And she’d never get her control back
Then, a furious voice shouted from across the room, “Orion Sterling! Didn’t you say the company was yours?!”
I turned my head just in time to see Seraphina, looking utterly disheveled, suddenly launch herself at Orion.
She straddled him, her hands clawing at Orion’s throat
Her voice cracked with rage and despair. “You lied to me! You said you were successful, that you had hundreds of millions in assets!”
“You said you could give me and my son a good life–that I’d be living as a wealthy wife! It was all fake! You’re a goddamn fraud!”

Orion shoved her off with one brutal kick and scrambled to his feet.
His voice was cold with disappointment “Didn’t you always say money didn’t matter to you? That all you wanted was a complete family for your son?”
Even the police couldn’t stand the scene anymore.
They arrested everyone involved and informed them clearly: if they couldn’t pay damages in full, they’d be facing prison time.
Orion and his people were taken away.
Lucian carried me to the car and rushed me to the hospital for a checkup.
Thankfully, my injuries were all superficial–just some bruises and cuts. With rest and treatment, I’d recover fully.
At the hospital, my parents arrived.
They had already heard what had happened–and their faces were stone cold with fury.
My father declared, right there in the hospital corridor, “Orion is hereby fired from our company. Effective immediately. I want his accounts audited. If he embezzled a single dollar, send him straight to the authorities.”
Lucian stood by calmly, then added, “Uncle Shaw, don’t worry. I’ve already blacklisted him from every major firm.”
“I guarantee he won’t find work–not even as a beggar.”
My parents looked at Lucjan with visible relief and admiration.
“You know,” my father said, “we always preferred you. It’s just a shame our daughter had–such terrible taste. She tossed away gold to chase a pile of rocks.”
My mother sighed. “But in the end, you still found your way back to each other.”
Lucian smiled modestly. “I don’t blame her. Back then, I just wasn’t good enough.”
My mom raised her brows. “Not good enough? Please. You’re so good I almost want to adopt you myself.”
Lucian laughed. “That’s the dream. But if I become your son, I can’t marry your daughter anymore.”
My mom actually looked disappointed. “That’s true… what a pity.”
Lucian turned to my dad and said playfully, “How about this–adopt me, disown Delphine, and let me marry her anyway?”

To my horror, my parents actually looked like they were considering it.
“Hey!” I cried. “I’m your biological daughter, remember?”
While I recovered in the hospital, Lucian kept my parents laughing and beaming day and night.
I had never seen my mother so happy.
They even picked a wedding date and settled the guest list–all while I was still in a hospital gown
The day I was discharged, Lucian handed me a massive bouquet and walked me out of the building.
I was in a good mood, finally feeling like life had settled into something warm and steady
But just outside the hospital gate, I ran into someone unexpected.
Orion’s mother.
She looked like she’d aged ten years in just a few days.
The moment she saw me, she rushed forward.
Lucian immediately stepped in front of me, shielding me protectively.
She didn’t even flinch.
She dropped to her knees right there, in front of dozens of onlookers.
“Delphine, I’m begging you.”
“Please don’t stay angry with Orion. You two–can’t you make up?”
“Today, the police took him away. They said he embezzled a lot of money. That you’re going to press charges.”
“Delphine, for my sake, please don’t follow through with it. You loved him so much. Can you really watch him go to prison?
I didn’t answer. I walked right past her.
But she crawled after me, clutching my mother’s leg
“Sister… we had a wedding arranged. You can’t just cancel it now!”
“I know this Mr. Grant is richer than us, but you can’t just throw away real teelings because of money!”
My mother recoiled with disgust.
The people around us had started whispering. It looked on the surface–like we were the ones being heartless. Like we dumped a poor
man for someone richer.
Lucian smiled faintly, then raised his voice so everyone could hear.
“Ma’am, your son is already married. He registered the marriage at the city hall. Are you really here trying to get him re–engaged to

Lucian’s expression sharpened. “So to your family, marriage is just for show? Something you can toss aside when it’s convenient?”
Now the crowd understood.
They turned their judgment on her.
“Wow. What a lunatic.”
