Chapter 6
A flicker of guilt flashed through Randy’s eyes. “I’m sorry, Debra. I didn’t ignore you on purpose. It’s just that I…”
I crossed my arms and watched him with curiosity, interested to see what explanation he might come up with.
His brain seemed to be working at full speed, and his face flushed deep red out of embarrassment.
Suddenly, a figure darted out and threw her arms around him. Then, she looked at me with provocation.
“It’s because Randy has been with me these past few months.”
While Audrey examined me, I was also examining her.
Her features did bear a slight resemblance to mine.
But I was entirely unique and not anyone’s copy.
“So you’re the stand–in he found for me? Honestly, we don’t look that much alike. His standards really dropped after I left the country.”
I raised an eyebrow. “I’m not sure if his taste worsened, but yours certainly did. In what sense do I resemble you? I can easily beat you with just one of my facial features, let alone my entire body. Don’t try to compare me to you.”
Upon hearing this, Audrey’s face flushed red in fury. She stomped her foot and glared at Randy, pouting. “Randy, look at her!”
“He hurriedly soothed her before turning to me with a frown.

“Debra, don’t take it out on Audrey if you’re mad at me.
Even though I had already moved on, seeing him defend her like that still made my heart sink.
After all, I had loved him sincerely and deeply.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t have spent three years altering myself to fit his ideal type.
But it had been exhausting.
I didn’t want to play the obedient girlfriend anymore.
“Mad at you? Wow, you think too highly of yourself!
“Whether or not you’re with someone is entirely up to you. I’m not sure why you keep dragging me into this. When we met, you never mentioned having an ex or some unforgettable first love.
“So now that your so–called first love has returned, I’m suddenly a stand- in? Let me be absolutely clear, Randy, I was never anyone’s copy.
“And right now, I’m the one dumping you. I want the both of you to get lost!”
After getting everything off my chest, my frustration began to subside.
I took a deep breath and turned away, not even looking at Randy’s astonished and panicked gaze.
That night, Vincent came over to cook for me again.
Even if I was slow, I knew he wanted to pursue me.
But I didn’t want to rush into a new relationship, especially with someone younger. I wasn’t into younger men.

Chapter 6
One evening after work, I transferred him money to cover the meals from the past few days.
“Thank you for cooking for me these past few days. But there’s no keep coming.”
Vincent didn’t respond.
But when I saw him crouching at my front door, I felt helpless and frustrated.
need to
I had barely opened my lips to say something when he beat me to it.
“Debra, I like you, and I want to pursue you. Please don’t avoid me.”
It had just poured outside.
He was soaked, and his plain white shirt clung tightly to his body.
His abs faintly showed through the fabric. His wet hair drooped down over his forehead, and those puppy–dog eyes looked up at me full of pleading.
He resembled a soaked, obedient small puppy, and I couldn’t bring myself to say no.
Thus, once again, I opened my door and welcomed him in.
“Come in and change your clothes.”
I searched my entire closet and couldn’t find anything that would fit him.
But I did find a bag of Randy’s things packed away by the entrance.
I’d almost forgotten I was supposed to get someone to pick them up tomorrow.

Suddenly, I felt a wave of heat from behind as a firm body pressed up against my back.
Vincent took my hand and placed it against the defined ridges of his abs. His voice was low, husky, and laced with temptation as he muttered, “Debra, won’t you be gentle with me?”
