Jackson’s resolute response filled me with profound admiration involuntarily.
I suddenly felt incredibly fortunate to be working under such a boss.
As expected, Jacob did go after Jackson’s company.
Leveraging the power of Phillips Group, he exerted considerable pressure on Jackson, causing significant trouble.
During that time, there were even rumors in the company that Jackson was struggling to withstand the pressure. Company performance was plummeting, and many previously secured deals were mysteriously canceled.
The company was on the brink of bankruptcy.}]
Many colleagues were contemplating jumping ship. Some even advised us to find new jobs quickly to avoid being left in a lurch if the company went under.
Their words made me anxious.
So, I decided to talk to Jacob.}
I had been to Phillips Group before and knew where his office was.
The receptionist saw me and smiled, “Ms. Turner. Mr. Phillips will be thrilled to know you’re here. This way, please.”}
When Jacob heard I was there, he eagerly came to greet me at the elevator. “Emily, you finally came to see me.“>
He opened his arms to hug me.
I stepped back to avoid him.
He looked awkward but tried to maintain his smile. “It’s okay, as long as you’re here to see me. Let’s talk in my office.“>
Once in his office, he poured me a cup of coffee. “This is your favorite. I had it specially prepared because I knew you’d come back to me.“}
“You’ve misunderstood.”
He visibly hesitated.
I got straight to the point. “Jacob, leave Jackson alone. He’s innocent.“@
“We’re not discussing this. Emily, I was wrong about your mother. I sincerely apologize. I swear, I didn’t mean to abandon you. I thought your mom was just dizzy as usual, and I didn’t expect it to be so serious…”
“That’s all in the past. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
“And about Samantha…”
As he was speaking, the door suddenly opened, and Samantha walked in.
Jacob’s secretary tried her best to stop her but couldn’t. “Mr. Phillips, I told her you had an important guest, but she insisted on coming
in…”
Jacob was furious. “You can’t handle a simple task? Don’t bother coming to work tomorrow. Get out!”
The secretary left with a look of grievance.
Seeing me there, Samantha smirked arrogantly, “So it’s you, Emily. Didn’t you say you were done with Jacob? Why are you still clinging to
him?”
“Samantha, stop it.”
I stood up immediately and, for the last time, pleaded humbly, “Jacob, if you have any remorse for me or my mother, I beg you to leave Jackson alone.”
“So you’re here to plead for Jackson. Emily, are you with him now? I heard Jackson gave you a month of paid leave. Since when has he been so generous to his employees? Turns out you two have that kind of relationship?”
Jacob had been softening, but hearing this, he flared up in jealousy and anger. “Emily, is what Samantha said true?“}
Hearing this, I realized he still didn’t trust me.”
His apology seemed so insincere and empty to me.”
I didn’t want to waste any more time with him.”
I turned to leave.
Jacob stepped in front of me, commanding, “You’re not leaving until you explain everything.”
*Jacob, you’ve never trusted me. What do you want me to say?”
He stood there, stunned as if he finally understood the issue.
I continued, “You say you were wrong. Do you even know where you went wrong? Samantha makes up lies about me and Jackson, and you believe her, accusing me.
“The night my mom got sick, I begged you not to leave because she was in critical condition. Did you come back?
“In the end, you love her more than you love me. You believe everything she says and nothing I say!”
I pushed him aside and stormed out, slamming the door behind me.
