As we reached the door, he stopped us again and asked angrily, “Are you really going?”

“Even though I don’t know how much you’ve saved over the years, I can tell you that if your mother hadn’t had the specialist I hired to perform the surgery, her illness would never have been cured!”
Then he put on a magnanimous front. “If you apologize to Samantha now, I’ll pretend none of this happened.”
