Chapter 5
It was my junior, someone I hadn’t seen in ten years–Logan Vance.
He frowned tightly, his face showing lingering fear. “Damn it, how dare he treat you like that. If I had arrived a step later…”
I fainted peacefully in his arms.
When I woke up, I was lying on a hospital bed. The doctor stood beside me with a grave expression, speaking to a man.
“She had an termination surgery and didn’t rest properly afterward. She also went without water and food for several days. It’s remarkable that she managed to hold on until now.

“She needs proper rest and can
herself. Additionally, her heart has suffered severe trauma and needs a transplant surgery as soon as possible.”
The man listened attentively, nodding from time to time.
After hearing the doctor’s words, he immediately pulled out his phone. “Hello! Steve? Help me contact the best cardiac surgeon in Canada. Prepare a VIP room and arrange for a cardiac consultation.”
“Water…” I made a weak sound.
Logan heard my voice and suddenly turned around. Seeing that I was awake, his eyes widened with pleasant surprise.
“You want water? Here!” He fumbled around pouring water, almost dropping his phone into the cup.

I couldn’t help but laugh, but it pulled at my abdominal wound, making me gasp in pain.
Logan carefully inserted a straw into the cup and brought it to my lips. He placed his palm over my lower abdomen, frowning with a heartbroken expression.
“It hurts a lot, doesn’t it? Damn, Lucas, I’m going to kill him.”
After drinking water, I could finally speak. “Logan…”
He gave a helpless smile. “I know, you don’t like me doing these violent things. But he dared to treat you like this–I just can’t stand it.”
“Lila, come with me to Canada. I’ll take good care of you.”
I hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Okay, but I still have one thing to do.”
After hearing what I said, Logan had his men take the clothes I had changed out of and put them back in the jungle, just like I asked.
The next day, Logan escorted me onto a plane bound for Canada.
As soon as we landed, a professional medical team was there to take me to the hospital.
Everything in the VIP room was arranged according to my preferences, warm and cozy like home.
I was surprised to find one of my childhood paintings on the wall–one I had wanted to bring but forgot when I moved back to the States from Canada.
The painting showed young me with my deceased parents.

Without Borders and were killed by mistake in a battle with armed forces.
Afterward, I was taken home by an elderly mercenary who sheltered many orphans left homeless by the war.
Under his protection, I slowly grew up, learned martial arts and marksmanship, and met Logan and Lucas.
Later, when I married Lucas and returned to the States, I forgot to bring this painting. I thought it was lost, but Logan had been keeping it safe all along.
My eyes filled with tears as I looked at him gratefully. “Thank you, Logan.”
In the days that followed, I waited in the hospital for my heart transplant surgery.

Lucas woke up from the master bedroom bed and habitually turned to embrace the woman beside him, gently kissing her forehead.
His deep voice was husky and tender. “Good morning, Lila.”
Sofia’s body stiffened. She turned around to look at him with tearful eyes, biting her lip without saying anything.
Lucas snapped awake, realizing he had called the wrong name. “Sorry, Sofia.”
He rubbed his temples, feeling irritated.
Sofia snuggled obediently in his arms, wrapping her arms around his waist and speaking softly. “Lucas, you’ve been so tired taking care of me these past few days. Sleep a little longer.”

Lucas responded dismissively, unable to help but think of Lila.
He wondered how she was doing now.
A few days ago, in a moment of anger, he had told some of his men to throw her into the jungle.
But Lila was skilled in combat, so there wasn’t much to worry about.
He’d wait another two days, then have someone bring her out and send her to the island.
Once Sofia’s child was born, he’d let her go home.
He had spoiled Lila too much over the years, making her think she owned the place and that no other woman could exist in this household besides her.
Downstairs, his friends were gathered in the living room playing cards.
When Lucas approached, he discovered they were using his and Lila’s wedding photos, with poker card patterns drawn on the backs.
“Who told you to take these?!” Lucas angrily snatched the photos away, trying to wipe off the stains.
The group of men froze, looking at each other.
Samuel snorted dismissively. “Lucas, why are you still treasuring these photos? Don’t you have Sofia now?”
Once he spoke up, the others laughed and chimed in.
“Yeah, once Sofia has the baby, you two can go take some new photos together.”
“Lucas, when’s the wedding banquet with Sofia? We’ve got to celebrate!”

Lucas was stunned. He looked up at them coldly. “What nonsense are you talking about? When did I ever say I was going to marry her?”
The room fell into deathly silence.
Samuel couldn’t help but ask.
“Lucas, didn’t you kick Lila out, so you could marry Sofia?”
“Yeah, didn’t you say you were tired of Lila’s cold attitude? She’s not as gentle and considerate as Sofia.”
“Right, now it’s perfect. That woman will never bother you and Sofia again. Lucas, your happy life is about to begin!”
Lucas frowned.
He had never thought about divorcing Lila to marry Sofia.
Lila’s personality was a bit cold and stubborn, but they had been through so many years together. Lila had taken bullets for him and saved his life.
She had also managed their household well, allowing him to focus on his work outside.
Even if Lila had done something wrong, it was only because she cared too much about him.
Sofia was gentle, but she was also too weak, and it became tiresome after a while.
Lucas missed the days when they fought side by side. Back then, Sofia’s heroic appearance was more charming than her current delicate woman
act.
Lucas shook his head. “Don’t say such things anymore. I’ve said it before— Lila is my only wife.”

Thinking of the bloodstained, torn clothes found in the jungle, Samuel’s face went pale.
“Lucas, there’s something you might need to know.”
“What?” Lucas looked up in confusion.

Samuel tremblingly retrieved the tattered clothing from the car. It was covered with bite marks from wild animals, and the bloodstains had turned dark red.
Lucas immediately recognized it as the clothes Lila had been wearing that day.
His eyes turned bloodshot as he glared at Samuel with murderous rage. “What happened?”
