Chapter 16
“My name is James and this is Evelyn. My daughter started letting him hurt her mother about 4 years ago. I tried to fight but his guard would hold me down and make me watch them and he would kick me. They took turns him and his guards. They stole my pension I got after I retired from working as a police officer. I don’t know how but they did. We haven’t eaten in 2 days. Are we really going to be safe?”
“Well the doctor says you don’t have to stay overnight as long as you stay on the compound so they can track your vitals. They will only mess with you if they have to we have this” I lift my sleeve and show them the band on my arm and say with this they can tell if i need medical attention and its put on and can only be taken off by Teddy one of the doctors here he is a friend of mine and has been for a long time and he used to work for my Godfather he will keep your health good. There is also Forest the doctor who just saw you. He’s kinda everywhere but he will always help you as well when he’s available”
James looks at his wife who nods “ok sounds nice. You seem so nice. I believe we can trust you.”
“I protect what’s mine so I can be hard as Ice and the biggest bitch when needed but we will talk about that after you have showered and ate. Your health is
what matters now.”
We walked out as Nana walked up with clothes. “Nana, she might need help. Can you help her if she needs it please.”
“Of course we will fix that man’s mistakes. I promise I turned a blind eye for too long.”
just started wheeling myself to the house and into the kitchen. I will start crying at some point but that’s for tonight. Once I get to my kitchen I look at the cook and say, “Cookie can you help me with something. I know you made my favorites but I have a couple who are about 70. They haven’t eaten more than twice a week if that from the looks of them. Can you make them something that won’t be hard on them but tons of vitamins in it.”
“Of course Layla I got you, it is our first set of rescues. I have a menu already prepared just for them so they can choose then I will make it. It will give them some control back but not overwhelm them.”
“That is awesome and yes the missions will be starting when everyone is ready for them to but we still need to build tiny homes in the forest so they can stay if they want.”
I wheel myself to my room. Panther closes the door and picks me up and we sit on the chair with my leg on the arm to prop it up while he rocks me and I cry. “How can people hurt their parents? I would have given anything to have a family that loved me growing up just how.”
“It’s ok layla, we will help people and help those your grandfather broke. I told my dad to bring my oldest brother Fred back and let him run the club he is in Florida. I told him I belong here with this job of helping you rescue people and just bringing light into this world while you kick ass but you have an x–ray to take. Maybe you can take your cast off. Forest will be here soon so he can start. He wants to see why since Dove was made to leave you dont pass out as much so he’s going to take blood and hair from you too.”
“Ok Panther I trust you. Please don’t break my trust like everyone else. You do know I will always cry when we rescue someone. Do you know how shocked I was Alec to see you were Panther? My protector from 8 to 13. Then your dad sent you away. I did tell him Tank was lying that you were with me that day not hurting your mother. He didn’t believe me because of the fact the Tank wore a mask. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop it”
He kissed my head and said it’s ok you I know you told the truth. I came back to you. I still remember you kissing me before I left and you said I would be your first kiss and you gave me a necklace with your initials in it.” Then he pulled it out of his shirt and I hugged him tighter.
Then he continued, “You were my first kiss too. I was focused on school and being the next president I didn’t pay much attention to girls except protecting them. Anyway I want to take you to the lake on the property next Friday if you can get you cast off. You need some fun and quiet. I should have a path made by then so it’s easy to get to it.”
“That sounds like fun. We are always around everyone. I bet on 3,2,1” then my door opens and its team. I said “told you” then me and him started laughing.
“Let’s go to the living room and wait on our guests” I say. Panther puts me in my chair and pushes the button to make it to where he can push me. I don’t mind if he likes it. I told him he didn’t have to but I get the feeling he is only 4 years older than me and he did like me when we were teens. Now he wants to see if it is a possibility. Let’s see if he stays loyal to me and doesn’t change.
We were sitting and talking but I kept hearing a buzzing sound. “Can someone check for bugs please. That buzzing wasn’t there last night but it is today what the hell. The morons must have stuck 2 right next to each other. It’s like a feedback sound” Panther jumps and grabs a wand followed by Tann, Speed, Shooter and Kevin.
