Rianne’s POVE
Chapter 100
Nigel was still on his knees, clutching the hem of my wedding dress like a man begging for his life.}
I stared at him, my voice growing colder and colder. “There’s no going back, Nigel. Not now, not ever.”>
“Do you know,” I said slowly, “I was pregnant? Two months along.”
He looked up at me, his eyes widening. “You… You were pregnant? We had a child? Two months?!”
I picked up my phone from the table, scrolled through my gallery, and found the blurry ultrasound photo. I held it out.
He looked at the tiny, indistinct shape on the screen, and then he locked his eyes on my belly.”
“Rianne… you were pregnant?”
“You carried our child? And I… I didn’t even know? God, I’m such a bastard! How didn’t I notice?”
“I swear, I swear, I’ll be a good father! I’ll make sure you and the baby are taken care of! Rianne, we finally had our own child! I’m so… I’m so hap-”
Looking at his stupid excited face, I started laughing. But the sound came out broken; my shoulders shook.
“Too bad the baby’s gone.“>
Nigel shook his head violently. “No. No! That can’t be true! You’re saying that just to hurt me, right?“}
I looked him straight in the eye. “No. You want to know when I lost the baby? The same day your child with your little intern was born!“> He froze. And then, he collapsed onto the floor, holding his face, sobbing.”
Hunther called the security guards. But Nigel clung to my legs and refused to let go.
“Rianne, I was wrong, I swear! Don’t marry him! Please don’t do this! I can’t–I can’t stand the thought of you marrying someone else!“} I let out a mocking laugh.
“Didn’t you say I was already thirty? That no one but you would ever want me?”
“But here’s the truth, Nigel: your love fades. It wears away with time. That’s why I’ll never go back to you.“)
“But him? He’s loved me for years. Through everything. Without ever changing.”
“So yeah–I deserve better. And you? You never deserved me!”
I nodded to the guards. “Take him out.”}
And just like that, my wedding began. I was surrounded by laughter, music, and an ocean of flowers.
Hunther had spared no expense to give me the wedding of the century.
I stood at one end of the aisle, looking at the man whose eyes had only ever held me.§
I’d thought I would walk down that aisle alone. But then Hunther’s mother appeared beside me.
“Rianne,” Delia called gently, “I’ll walk you down. From now on, I’m your mom too.”
“If Jinyan ever upsets you even a little,” she said, “you come tell me. I’ll deal with that brat for you.“} Tears welled in my eyes. I looked toward Hunther, and suddenly I understood…!
Real love makes you feel safe.
And when someone truly loves you, their family will too. They’ll treat you like something precious.
As the music swelled, I took each step forward in my wedding gown, surrounded by cheers, while Nigel was trapped behind security.” That asshole could only watch as I walked into another man’s arms.
I bet that stupid ex of mine was breaking down, sobbing uncontrollably.
But I didn’t care anymore.
Hunther took my hand, and though he tried to speak, he choked up. Even this tall, proud man couldn’t hold it in.
I threw my arms around him, holding him tight. We had lost ten years. But now, thank heavens, we had each other again.
Then, he knelt and slid a diamond ring–big enough to rival two of Nigel’s–onto my finger.
And in front of everyone, we exchanged rings and vows and sealed it with a kiss:
