Chapter 22
I looked at Maverick’s eyes in surprise.
But he wasn’t looking at me.
“Paisley, whenever you’re here, my heartbeat is different.”
“I don’t know if you can hear me.”
I didn’t know if Maverick’s body was really experiencing changes.
“Next time Maverick has his regular check–up, should I go try?”
I raised my left hand to look at the ring I was wearing.
Maverick also raised his left hand.
“Paisley, this ring really connected us, didn’t it?”
“So… could you maybe visit me in my dreams?”
Maverick’s words made my heart ache sweetly.
“I can’t. If I could, I would have met with Bella long ago.”
“Maybe it’s because I stayed here, but I don’t want to leave yet.”
I knew I was now a soul with choices.
But Bella was still young–I wanted to watch her more.
Maverick didn’t sit there very long before returning to his room.
That night was like any other.
Maverick didn’t see me in his dreams either.
After that, he’d sleep holding his diary, with my photo under his pillow.
In the blink of an eye, Bella turned seven–old enough for elementary school.
Maverick took her to change her name to his surname.
He specifically brought Bella to run to my grave to tell me about it.
“Paisley, I gave Bella a new name–Genevieve Rhodes.”
“What do you think?”
This was a name I watched Maverick think of. From now on, Bella would just be her nickname.
I was increasingly looking forward to watching Bella grow up.
He sighed, gazing at the photo on my tombstone.

Chapter 22
“Paisley, why can’t I dream of you?”
“I clearly think of you every day. Is it that you don’t want to see me?”
Bella shook her head beside him.
“Bella hasn’t dreamed of Mommy either. Mommy must be too busy.”
“How about we write letters to Mommy?”
Maverick nodded: “Bella’s right.”
Then they started writing letters to me.
Every so often they’d bring them to my grave to burn.
Actually, most of the time I happened to be right there watching them write.
This habit continued for five years.
This night, Maverick entered my room again.
He was used to writing letters to me at my desk.
“Paisley, I still really want to dream of you.”
“I’ve been taking good care of myself. My check–up results are all healthy.”
“This time with the company’s new project, I didn’t pull a single all–nighter.”
I quietly watched Maverick write line by line.
“I’m still keeping up with workouts. I remember you said you liked abstinu. & krste pret
Occasionally I couldn’t help responding.
“Maverick, why are you writing everything in your letters now?”
I couldn’t help covering my face.

But Maverick couldn’t hear me, so he wouldn’t be interrupted.
“It’s just… Bella’s very lively. She has so many creative ideas now…”
Hearing this made me want to see what Bella was up to.
I floated over to see Bella stuffing an envelope.
”
Bella looked ready to cry: “Mommy, fifth–grade problems are really hard.”
Then she sandwiched a blank test paper between several tests she’d done well on.
Folding it over and over, stuffing it into the envelope.
I couldn’t help shaking my head.
“Maverick, don’t you want to see Bella’s new creative idea?”
If I remembered correctly, that test paper was homework she needed to turn in.

“I used to take tests I failed that needed parent signatures to burn too.”
“Can Bella inherit even this idea?”
I was quite curious how Maverick planned to handle this after discovering it.
