Chapter 21
I looked at Bella’s serious little expression, feeling my soul melt into mush.
“Is this the secret you both won’t regret?”
I looked back at Maverick–his eyes were bright and determined.
Though his face was a bit wrinkled from crying.
“You’re ten years older than me, yet here you are crying like this.”
But I still thought he looked handsome.
I knew my answer had never actually changed.
“Maverick, if you truly don’t regret this, then I accept.”
As my words fell, I clearly felt a change in my soul.
Instinctively, lifting my left hand to check, I discovered a ring had appeared on my finger.
I looked toward the ring box in surprise.
The ring was still there–both rings identical.
I couldn’t help but marvel at the “magic.”
I took a deep breath and solemnly placed the ring on my left ring finger.
At that moment, Maverick suddenly turned his gaze toward me.
“Paisley?”
His eyes lit up for an instant, then filled with even more tears.
I was startled.
Bella looked over too, but her face showed only confusion.
Maverick was already on both knees, covering his face and crying.
“She said yes. Paisley is still willing… she’s willing.”
“Maverick, are you okay?”
Did he see me? Or hear what I said?
I was somewhat confused, glancing at the assistant standing nearby.
He had already turned away and walked several steps further.
Bella hugged Maverick.
She gently patted the top of Maverick’s head with her little hands.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry. Bella didn’t cry, see?”

I watched, thinking this scene was especially precious.
“If only this could be recorded. I’d want to watch it several times every day.”
I couldn’t help but glance again at the assistant’s back several steps away.
I shook my head and sighed.
“Too bad the assistant and Maverick aren’t that close.”
“Otherwise he’d definitely be taking a video right now.”
Maverick really did have many tissues in his suit’s inner pocket.
I watched him pull them out one by one to clean his face.
“Maverick’s definitely going to be a handsome old man.”
I was certain of it.
After tidying his appearance, Maverick bowed to my tombstone with Bella before leaving.
Returning home again, everything felt different.
“Now we’re a family of three.”
The grief that had weighed on me was replaced by warmth and happiness.
Right from the moment I put on the ring, my reason for remaining in this world had changed, and I no longer felt any constraints.
you.”
“Maverick, now I’m staying for you.”
I caressed the ring on my finger, unable to stop my smile.
The days gradually began passing more quickly.
Bella went to the hospital for check–ups.
Her recovery was excellent–she was now a healthy four–year–old.
Maverick seemed to have grown accustomed to being inseparable from Bella.
Whenever Bella wasn’t at kindergarten, Maverick was definitely by her side.
When he was busy at home, he’d sit beside Bella, glancing over from time to time.
When he wasn’t busy, he’d accompany Bella with drawing and writing.
The house filled with many family portraits Bella had drawn.
At night, Maverick would watch over Bella, telling stories to help her sleep.
Only after Bella fell asleep would he spend some quiet time alone.
Sitting on the tatami on the balcony, writing in his diary.
That diary filled with me continued growing.
“Paisley, actually the day I proposed to you, I heard your voice.”

I wasn’t surprised.
“At first I thought it was my imagination, but later I could always sense you.”
I was somewhat puzzled.
“Maverick’s behavior hasn’t been any different from before.”
Maverick continued writing bit by bit.
“When I’m with Bella, you’re there. When I’m at the company, you’re not.”
“That’s when I knew–you’ve probably been watching over Bella for a long time.”
“I’m a bit envious, and very regretful. Regretful that I didn’t believe you.”
“But mostly I’m grateful–grateful that at least you’re still here.”
Thinking of the past, I couldn’t help sighing.
“I’m grateful too–grateful that at least you still came.”
Maverick stopped his writing, pressing his hand to his chest.
“Paisley, I know you’re here.”
