Chapter 17
No matter how I looked, there was no surprise on Maverick’s face.
Bella looked very happy: “Yes! Now.”
I watched Bella for a long time before finally calming my emotions.
“Of course they can’t see me.”
I still felt a little disappointed.
Just a little.
Maverick had already prepared everything–they could move in immediately.
But for Bella to live here, they still needed to add quite a few things for children.
Maverick arranged Bella’s room in what used to be my study.
He would still live in his previous room.
I thought my room would just remain empty.
But soon, the assistant brought several people to deliver the additional items.
My room’s closet was hung with styles I used to wear frequently.
New books were added to the desk, including magazines I used to read every season and new books by authors I liked.
Outside the room, from toiletries to tableware, I had my share of everything.
Bella’s room had already been simply arranged, so there wasn’t much to add.
“I’m home.” I slowly lay down on my bed.
At this moment, I, having become a soul, truly had a place to belong.
I knew I would eventually dissipate.
But now I no longer hoped to leave.
“Bella, Maverick, I can’t bear to part with you.”
I carefully buried myself under the covers.
Under the covers was always safe.
After the assistant’s visit, Maverick became very busy.
His company seemed to have encountered some troublesome matters.
I listened to some of it and only figured out that the Hartwell family seemed to be causing trouble.
“The Hartwell family is using Derek’s situation to make their position clear.”
Maverick was on the phone in his study.

And now, I could float in without obstruction to watch him.
“Continue pushing forward according to previous arrangements, but speed up.”
“Before the Hartwell family shows their cards, all arrangements must be implemented.”
“Also, add a few more bodyguards on my end…”
Maverick’s features were actually very gentle, carrying warmth even when not smiling.
But at this moment he was like a sheathed sword, carrying the momentum of a killing strike.
“Serious people are really charming, Maverick.”
I watched and admired him like this for quite a while.
After finishing his call, Maverick left the study.
He would never leave Bella out of sight for too long.
“Bella, we need to go to the hospital.”
Maverick came to the tatami by the balcony.
Bella was sitting there reading a picture book.
She looked up at Maverick and nodded.
Maverick picked her up and bounced her a little.
“Bella is doing well, eating properly.”
At the hospital, after the doctor finished examining Bella, he chatted with her for a few sentences.
“Bella is recovering very well. You can come back for another check–up next month.”
The doctor looked at Bella with loving eyes, which made me happy too.
“Bella? Is that Bella?”
A middle–aged woman’s voice came from outside the door.
I looked at her and found her very familiar.
But Maverick had already recognized the visitor, his tone somewhat cold.
“Mrs. Hartwell, what brings you here?”
I remembered–she was about my age, the wife of the Hartwell family’s eldest son.
The Hartwell family wasn’t large, and I had met them all.
In my impression, she was a very kind person.
Bella had never seen her and was now staring at her.
Mrs. Hartwell smiled gently.
“I brought my son for a regular check–up. How is Bella doing?”

Chapter 17
Mrs. Hartwell looked at Bella, her tone gentle and affectionate.
“Bella, I’m your aunt. We met when you were just born.”
Bella tilted her head looking at her, somewhat confused as she followed along: “Aunt.”
Maverick put away Bella’s medical records and picked her up.
“Mrs. Hartwell, we need to go.”
At this moment, however, Mrs. Hartwell took out two items from her bag and handed them over-
A photograph and a peace charm.
