That day, Ms. Celeste walked into our house, looked around everywhere, then sat on the
sofa.
Mom told me to go play in my room, but I didn’t want to. I wanted to stay with Mom.
Ms. Celeste said, “If my little Jason were this disobedient, I’d have already laid hands on
him.”
Mom hugged me close. “It’s just a child being a bit sweet, not disobedient at all. My child can be disciplined, but no one can lay a hand on her.”
Ms. Celeste smiled. “If you don’t educate her, society will naturally educate her when she grows up.” Afgh
Mom said, “How her future turns out is none of your concern.”
Mom always spoke softly, but this was the first time I heard anger in her voice.
Ms. Celeste replied, “How is it not my concern? Julian has already asked you for a divorce, hasn’t he? After that, half of the money he gives you will be mine.”
Mom took a sip of tea. “Then don’t forget, every penny he has now, half of it is mine.”
Ms. Celeste left angrily. Before she walked out, she said, “You’re just usurping my place because you look like me.”
Mom looked at her. “If you hadn’t left him and married someone else when his family was going through its toughest time, how would I have had this chance to take your place?”
Mom at that moment was like a female warrior from a cartoon.
But after Ms. Celeste left, Mom cried in the bathroom.
I heard her talking to someone.

She said if Dad still didn’t love her, she would be wiped out.
She would vanish completely and never see me again.
She also said she shouldn’t have been so greedy.
She shouldn’t have wanted children after getting love, shouldn’t have given birth to me to
suffer.
