I called Dad and told him what Mom said, that Mom might die.
Dad asked me, “Is Mom next to you? Did she tell you to say that?”
I said Mom wasn’t there, and I wanted to tell Dad myself.
But Dad got angry. “Then let her die!”
“Daddy, you’re a big meanie!” I cried.
Even though I didn’t know what “die” meant, I just felt so sad.
After hanging up, I turned around and saw Mom standing in the doorway.
She walked over and gently hugged me, patting my back softly to comfort me, saying she would always be by my side.
Even if she turned into a wisp of wind, a drop of rain, she would be with me forever and
ever.
