Chapter 7
I raised an eyebrow. It was no wonder Jackson looked so strange during the entire press conference–it turned out he was hoping I’d show up and ruin his “celebration“.
Did he really expect me to act like I used to–causing a scene the moment I saw him and Laila tangled up together?
Too bad he would be disappointed, for the person who arrived wasn’t me, but a stranger brought in by one of Jackson’s men.
Jackson’s men whispered something in his ear, and Jackson immediately showed a smug smile. “You’re the courier Seraphina sent? What did she send me this time?”
The courier handed him the package I had prepared. “This is a delivery from Ms. Seraphina. Please sign for it.”
Jackson began opening it while saying, “Go back and tell Seraphina that sending me gifts won’t get her forgiveness. She’d better behave and hand over the pup…”
He was about to mock me further, but he
oze up when he saw what was inside the package. Inside were the things he had (once given me–items I had once cherished dearly.
But now, they were thrown haphazardly into a box, with none of the tender feelings they once held.
Jackson angrily slammed the box onto the table. “What is the meaning of this? Is Seraphina trying to provoke me with these things? Where is she?”
The courier ignored Jackson’s raging and calmly delivered my message. “Ms. Seraphina left you a letter. Also, she said that this particular box must be handed to you personally.”
He pulled out another item I had prepared–a small wooden box–and gave it to Jackson. Jackson, full of suspicion and denial, acted as if he were doing this as self–consolation and forced himself to open it.
But the moment he opened it, his expression completely froze.
The tiny, curled–up remains of a child lay quietly inside the box.
His pupils contracted violently as he dropped the box, sending it crashing to the ground.
Those remains were of our pup. It was a surprise I had prepared just for Jackson with the remnants after my necklace was made.
“What is that? How could Seraphina send something so cursed to our press conference?” Laila screamed and backed away.
Jackson stood frozen for a long time before finally reacting. He slowly bent down to gently pick up the spilled remains.
Judging by the pain etched across his face, I knew he had recognized the remains as his own pup’s.
伏 My father’s expression was filled with rage. “That damned Seraphina! She just had to cause trouble on such a joyous day! That bitch!”
“Oh, and gentlemen–Ms. Seraphina specifically instructed me to tell you that the letter contains the truth about the past.”
